Roof rack

Hi All

Being always frustrated with safely tying things to a roofrack and stop things sliding sideways I made these.
They also fit my jaguar roof bars, so I guess the aluminium extrusion Tee slots are fairly standard size.

I milled them square from coach bolts, then made a nylon spacer washer with a square hole to fit the bolt shank, then some M10 eyenuts. I believe you can get factory M6 ones, but look micky mouse weak, so something decently strong had to be made.

Best wishes
Glen

Nice job!

You must be 7' tall if you can reach the roof to put anything up there Laughing I have to get the step ladder out to wash and polish the roof.

Thanks for your kind words. I am lucky I have a lathe and a milling machine and sometimes you get dragged along the fun of trying to do a nice engineering job.

But for DIY they could be made almost as well with an angle or bench grinder (or even a file.....!), take off a bit of the dome head, and put 2 or 4 flats on the edges. to make it 20-21mm. (its square to stop it unscrewing)
The nylon washer (square bore) could have a round bore, or be hard rubber, but its nicer square as it self centers.
Anybody got a 3D printer could add it to the LR forum shop!
M10 eye nuts off ebay @£1.49p each delivered. Stainless if you are posh.

As I mentioned, it also fits my Jag roof bars, so twice the use!

Best wishes
Glen
