I can't speak for the L405 as I've only ever driven the SDV8 models.

But in the L494 RRS I've had the pleasure to drive the SDV8 and SDV6 and I was genuinely surprised how similar they were speed wise. Not sure if they're identical engines in the big RR but from what I could tell the difference was marginal at best.

I had a similar dilemma. Was coming out of a L322 2011 Autobiography (fabulous Car) to a L405. I was stuck between 3.0 and 4.4 and SE/Autobiography. At the finish I found a 4.4 Autobiography in the spec I was after. For me the 4.4 feels more Range Rover, that little bit of gruff V8 you hear coming through the cabin enhances the experience. I fully appreciate the 3.0 is definitely quieter almost more limo like but the V8 has that little bit of character I believe enhances the drive. The pull from 50 - 70 is effortless for overtaking. I will say I believe the L322 was a better tow car, maybe due to the added weight.

Well it's here, the M6 pretty much took the joy out of the new car experience.

From home address to Stoke its no more than 1 hour 20 minutes. Nearly 3 hours to get there and 4.5 to get home. It's a wonder anything gets done in this Country Censored

Anyway it's here, and so far I'm more than happy, early days I know. Lovely to drive very smooth. Very nice change after 15 years of L322's

I will get some pics up soon.

Thanks again for all the advice and sharing of experiences. Thumbs Up ------------------------------------------

I was under the impression that, because the L405 was a lot lighter, L322 V8 = L405 V6 for performance. So you should be just fine. Or fine until Frank comes zooming down the autobahn in his 5.0L Supercharged to tell you neither engine burns the correct fuel. Mr. Green

I can't tell any negative difference in performance between the 4.4 and 3.0 RR2008.

If anything, the 3.0 feels slicker, sharper and more responsive at low speeds and the car does (for obvious reasons) feel lighter, whilst being no lightweight Thumbs Up

The new one does look good.

I'm resisting driving an L405 as I know that I will want one afterwards...

cheers and enjoy Alex

For some reason, the TDV6 in the L494 is a higher output than the TDV6 in the L405.

Each engine has their supporters though - they are different, but both good.

My advice is... don't do it. Rolling with laughter That's what i did and look where it got me. My issue was the big jump in price from 322 to 405. However if id of waited 2 years i would still have had the price jump. I'm not regretting it though.
