Sagging seat??

Gents I have a sagging seat (I know Iknow) anyway have a man coming to re colour and also do door card repairs where the doors have been shut with the seat belt in situ I am wondering if it is worth replacing the squab - its only 85 quid from Dan or will the leather still look loose ? the rest of the seats are all in good nick as very rarely used

It would only look vastly different if the seat base foam has collapsed. If not, might be worth getting someone to take the base cover of and refit it and repair it if necessary.

I recall reading that the seat bases are the same right and left, so perhaps swap the worn driver seat base for the passenger one? That said on my P38 the seat base foam was replaced (under warranty, the seat had been misbuilt with a fold in the foam near the outer edge) and that seemed easy enough for the dealer to do, so perhaps easy and not too expensive on the 322 also. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I took the p38 seats apart to repair the heated element in the seat its not a difficult job on these either just the hog rings and on the p38 I binned them and used cable ties - that was 10 years ago and still have the p38 and its still good

I replaced my seat base, was fiddly but not too difficult. It must be done out of the car and an extra pair of hands really is needed as you need someone to steady the seat as you apply pressure here and there. The old one is easy to get out, but the leather is much tighter going over the new foam obviously.

You will need to buy hog ring pliers and some new hog rings and you'll need a decent pair of snips to cut the old rings. I think I paid £70 from Dan @ Duckworth last year according to my records.

So glad I did it, after 185k - it feels like you're sitting in a new car.

Unnecessary quote removed

Dan is there a retaining stitch running side to side across the middle that you have to pick up or does the leather just sit straight over the base ?

I've done a few of these and as Dan Uk 1984 says, once the seat is out of the vehicle (necessary, remember to disconnect the battery first before unplugging the various electrical connectors, else you'll trigger the airbag warning and need an iid or similar to reset and only connect the battery again once everythings back in place) so long as you're methodical, it's not too challenging. Metal snips (to cut the existing hog rings securing the leather cover to the seat foam) and hog ring pliers (to re-attach) are needed, not too difficult once you get the hang of it. Some use plastic tie wraps instead, but I personally wouldn't.

No stitching to undo / re-stitch.

Give it a go!

Hog rings are cheap and can be fitted with ordinary pliers, fiddly but do-able.
