New Coolant Leak

Just found the cause of a coolant leak which I've been noticing for a few months. Had a small drip on driveway everytime I left the car there, and going through about a litre of coolant every week or two. Investigated and couldn't see leak anywhere, so assumed radiator was on way out.

Anyway the radiator burst last week, so changed it out assuming this is where the leak had been coming from originally. Topped up with water/coolant and ran engine, still a drip from behind radiator (same place as before). After much frustration (took radiator back out and checked all hoses etc.) eventually traced leak to 'transmission cooler plate'. This is the small manifold attached to the gearbox oil cooler. A plastic seam had failed and only leaked a small amount when under pressure, see photo's.

Part number is PCU000140, £18 from main dealer, but have to wait 3-4 days until he gets part from LandRover Rolling Eyes

MY car is an 02 4.4 HSE

Excellent info there, yet another BMW plastic part that fails.

How BMW have a good reputation for reliability I don't know!

Good find - my 2003 4.4 has a loss of coolant that I can't locate - approx 0.5lt every month or so. Will have a look at this part on mine. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."
