United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Aintree Green

Thanks everyone!

I've been putting some miles on it since collection on Saturday and am currently on 386 Very Happy

We stopped for celebratory fish and chips at Braunton on the way home and this is what we came back to:

Which was a bit of a contrast Wink

I'm sorry to say that it's now got a layer of Cornish polish* on it now and it's not looking quite as pretty today, but the weather forecast for the weekend says "wash your car and go and take some pictures" Thumbs Up

So far, the top 10 positives after the D4 are:

1. Very, very comfortable seats.
2. No longer having to slam the doors to shut them.
3. A lot more space for the rear passengers.
4. Really nice interior.
5. Touch screen and IT systems are a huge improvement.
6. So quiet at speed.
7. Very, very fast and I'm still running it in Shocked
8. Windscreen wipers are quiet (at last!).
9. Lovely opening sunroof.
10. Love the wood and leather steering wheel.

The less good bits?

1. The fuel consumption computer is very optimistic - over reading by about 4.5 mpg Shocked (D4 was over reading by about 1.5 mpg). It's returned 24.5mpg so far (D4 long term real average 26.6mpg); I'm hoping that it might get a little better as it loosens up a bit.
2. The headlamps aren't so bright.
3. When you open the boot, water from the upper tailgate drips onto the inside of the lower tailgate.
4. Er... that's about all I can think of for the moment Thumbs Up

PS: Can anyone with AdBlue help me on this one? The car came with about 5,000 miles of AdBlue in it. I tried to fill it with another 10 litres (the D4 would hold 19,000 miles worth of AdBlue), but it acts like it's full. How much do you get in yours?

*country lane mud!

6 Days and only 728 miles later and I'm getting to like it more and more by the day Thumbs Up

The SDV8 is a gem and is so torquey! It really responds to being driven smoothly, with minimum revs - just riding the wave of torque Very Happy

The gearbox suits the engine perfectly, although the interstellar gearing (1,320 rpm at 70 mph) does necessitate a change down to 7th on Cornish dual carriageway inclines.

Fuel economy is picking up. Using the Road Trip App (with brim to brim fill ups), it's risen from a worrying 23 mpg to start with, to a slightly more sane 25-28 mpg.

I have to remember that although 70 mph seems very slow in the FF, it was a sensible cruising speed in the Disco 4 and it just goes to show how smooth and quiet the FF is. The only downside is that the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde's provide a lot of road noise (although it might just be a function of the rest of the car being so quiet).

I'm still enjoying not to have to slam the doors to shut them, which is really nice Thumbs Up

Loving all of the IT although, slightly worryingly (considering other's experiences), the Bluetooth has dropped out once and the DVD hung several times in very quick succession; both were cured by a full restart of the car. However, these things have happed only once and haven't returned yet.

The Xenon headlights definitely seemed dimmer when I first had it and the adaptive bit didn't seem to be working. Oddly, the lamps seem as bright as the Disco's now and the adaptive function seems to be working, but much less vigorously than it did on the D4 Confused Talking of lamps, the reversing lights are shockingly bad and I'd love to know if anyone has found an upgrade path...

Unfortunately, Kathy's not too happy with the lack of pockets in the boot and our neighbour doesn't seem to be talking to us anymore! Fair's fair, he had a green V8 petrol RR Classic, that he had owned from new, when he first moved in around 2000 - so it's not like he didn't set a precedent Rolling Eyes

Anyway, here's looking forward to the next few weeks mileage Thumbs Up

Thats a stunning looking car. (nice plate too).

The dripping off the upper tailgate must be a bloody legal requirement by now! it cant be rocket science to fix that surely.

Hope that they've fixed that in the 2018 facelift...

Lizzie has been back at the dealer, for some minor “snagging” and she’s been there ever since Monday morning, as I won’t be able to get back there until Sunday morning.

Missing her something rotten, but I have had a chance to put 500 miles on a 67 plate Disco Sport HSE 240 Diesel, which was a slightly depressing experience! Rolling Eyes Although, on the plus side, it’s 500 miles x 24p off the excess mileage charge on the FF (beyond 122,500 miles...)

I’m going to wish that I’d never bought a D4, or a FFRR, in the first place; everything else just seems a bit yuck afterwards!

Hope it’s nothing serious with Lizzie.

Mine had some “minor snagging faults” which after 7 trips to the dealer remained unresolved. All software related, with updates not being available from JLR to sort the problem. They even put a new infotainment unit in. That fixed the frozen sat nav but nothing else...

Car back for attempt number 8 which, if it fails, will cause vehicle to be rejected. Which is a shame cos I really love it .

But to the point - I agree entirely about being spoiled. In the event of rejection of car, despite the issues, I would order another as there’s nothing else I want to drive now. I’d not hesitate to use the same dealer, who have been superb throughout. I’ve been loaned a RRS, which was ok but I wouldn’t really want to have, a Disco sport which I really didn’t like and seemed very harsh after the FF, and lastly a Disco 5 which was (logically) somewhere between the other two. But was ultimately disappointing as well as being so fugly I can’t beleive it passed the design approval. The others it was up against must have been real munters!

But each time I got the FF back, it just felt SO good, quiet, relaxing, and smooth.

I’m sure that any of the loan cars, driven in isolation and withoutbthe FF experience would have seemed excellent. But I fear there’s no going back now!
