Transmission error

Hello All,

Can anyone tell me what a "torque converter monitor fault: general fault" error means?

Transmission was fully refurbished, so it is under warranty, but I am just trying to find out what the error actually means.

GAP Diagnostics have admitted that they don't know, so any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Presumably it’s referring to the slip speed across the LUC – which usually means trouble with the GM 5L40-E. Come to think of it, most things mean trouble with the 5L40-E. I should drain off some fluid and check if it has glitter (fine metallic debris) in it.

P.S. Does anyone know why the IID Tool doesn’t just give the Land Rover P-codes?

Thanks Phil, but the whole transmission has just been refurbished.

In theory, the torque converter was replaced.

The place that did it are actually being excellent, and have accepted that it is their responsibility to sort it out.

It is going to them on Saturday next week, and they are going to sort it.

Ok... To bring this thread back to life...

Car went back to garage, and they have replaced torque converter again, and checked everything in gearbox again. All is good, but i am still getting "mechanical torque converter monitor: General fault" errors sporadically.

The garage admits that they don't know what the problem is.

They think it could be the gearbox computer.

What do you think?

Any ideas would be appreciated!!

Other than the fault code, what are the symptoms, only out of interest , Phil is your man.

No real symptoms. Drives perfectly until the error comes, then the torque converter doesn't lock. Once error cleared, torque converter works perfectly until error comes up again.

Converter has been replaced (twice now). All internal clutches & valves been replaced & tested.

Help!!!! Please!!! Big Cry
