Mine turned out to be a failed rubber gasket between the oil/coolant exchanger.......princely sum of £15 for the gasket, but much gnashing of teeth worrying in case it was more than it appeared.

Oil cooler in the V failed and was replaced under warranty.

Thanks for the replies gents.
The oil cooler/heat exchanger could take over the number 1 slot when I update my Fault Log next month, especially if I include the "9 more" mentioned in mjdronfields post.
However, given the number of miles trouble free motoring we all enjoy most of the time, I really think we are lucky to own such a great car.

Cheers

Mike,

If it does make it to number 1, I wonder how many oil cooler replacements could have just been down to the rubber gasket? It''s easier for the dealers to replace the whole thing than carry out a proper investigation.

When I did mine, I was waiting for Dan to supply the cooler, but discovered it was only the gasket, thus saving £300.

I agree with your doubts Mike.
I don't know how long it takes to strip it all down and then rebuild it, but if the cooler/ heat exchanger is c£400, then I suppose that equates to about 4 hours at a MD.
Replacing the unit with a new one removes any doubt and let's them charge for parts and labour without anyone able to question them?? G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
