I would take Kumho tyres over Continental, which have to be the most over priced tyre on the market imho.

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Baltic Blue

This is now getting ridiculous. The tyres on the wheels that I was looking at in the scrapyard were manufactured in 2002 and 2004.
We looked at the wheel lug nuts on the car, which are the type from an original 2004 FFRR, and the scrap seller said he thought they were right for the existing wheels on the car. But if the wheels were, as described when I bought the car, RR Sport wheels, these nuts should have been the wrong type.

So I drove to the local, recommended by many, indy LR repairer, and he said that the wheels are, in fact original 19" Range Rover wheels and so the nuts will be correct for them. He just thought keep these wheels and buy a spare off ebay. So, the question is can anyone idenify what the wheels on the car actually are so that I can match them and not buy a spare that needs different wheel nuts.

Here, I hope, is a picture.

The early wheels, up to around 2005 use a different nut to the later ones.

The wheels you have in your picture should be using the early type black nut if from a FFRR or the later silver type if they are from a RRS I would guess.
They look like the silver ones from your photo. Porsche 911 (996)

billboard, you have RRS wheels which should have the 23mm shank nuts (as in the 2005 onwards FF)

the correct FF tyre size is 255 55 19......

you can put the above tyre size onto the RRS wheels.... ... - .- -.

Well, the current tyres are definitely 255/50 R19. The wheels are as shown above and the wheel nuts, which have a 20mm shank, look like this. Is everything wrong?

I've ordered a single wheel nut with possibly (it didn't say!) a 23mm shank from ebay. I will offer it up when it arrives. Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

When you put your finger in the wheel, the hole where you removed the bolt, is it bevelled or flat? Porsche 911 (996)

Gizze, that would mean taking the wheel off completely, which I was hoping not to have to do.

I assume the bevel, if not just there for identification purposes, is just a simple guide as, surely, the main tightening force on both types of nut is between the flat part of the nut where the washer is and the wheel itself.

All this would be much easier if I had a spare wheel to look at, but that's partly where I came in. Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

No, just stick you finger in the hole where you took that wheel nut out of.

Can you feel a taper on the inside of the hole or is it flat?

There is a reason wheel nuts are tapered, it is because the holes you are putting them in are also tapered. Porsche 911 (996)

I should just add, the reason it seems a bit strange is Stan is saying your wheels are RRS wheels, your wheel nuts however are early FFRR wheel nuts.

I guess the early nuts will fit as they are smaller, where as you would not be able to use the later nuts on earlier wheels as they would not fit.

Have you had any problems with vibrations or anything?
Just with them being 3mm smaller than needed to line them up properly it could be quite easy to not have them completely central.

I suppose the tapered aspect is more for wheel bolts than wheel nuts. Porsche 911 (996)

Wheel nuts are not designed to locate or centre the wheel on the hub. Wheels are a close tolerance fit via the protrusion of the hub into the centre hole of the wheel. Wheel nuts alone, no matter how torqued up would not be sufficient to hold the wheel central to the hub if it weren't for the protrusion. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

The thing is that these are lug nuts, so, when removed from the wheel, the bolt is still there in the centre of the hole, so there's no way of sticking a finger down.

The bigger nut is due to arrive by Thursday, so I hope that offering that up will clarify matters.

Two ebay adverts for RRS wheels have pictures that match my wheels, so I'm sure that Stan is correct.

A friend with a Disco2 (who uses and trusts the local indy who said they are FFRR wheels!) has looked at the wheels and a nut and he, too, wondered whether I had any vibration problems. I haven't noticed any, but.....

Simultaneously with this I've been having suspension knocking noises attended to and my local man has replaced 2 "stabilising link bars". This has massively helped, but there are still occasional lesser clunks so I'm wondering if any of these might be slight movement of the wheels under the nuts.

Edit: Just seen Rob's contribution, which implies it doesn't matter if these are the wrong wheel nuts. I think I'm too old for all this Confused

The Disco friend was very proud that his nuts were bigger than mine. Rolling Eyes Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

Unnecessary quote removed

I know it shouldn't matter, and the centre hub is usually down to 0.1mm accurate, but I did wonder if having so much play with the bolts if maybe there had been some issues.
But you're right, I guess it shouldn't matter as the hub will always pull it central. Porsche 911 (996)

I never get why I always get "Unnecessary quote removed" when I am replying and it is not the person directly above me but to an earlier poster?

I think the quote helps keep the thread in context far better and causes less confusion. Porsche 911 (996)

That's not what I'm saying. You absolutely should always use the correct wheel nuts.

The point I was making is that the transfer of the weight of the car happens through the hub/wheel close fit. Correct wheel nuts are essential to bolt the wheel to the face of the hub. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
