This should be in L322 section - but imagine it might be of interest to everyone.
Does the choice of diesel - normal or super make any difference in a 4.4 TDV8? Does paying extra make a worthwhile difference? I know higher octane petrol makes the bike smoother and more efficient.

Out here - I will probably use the premium winter diesel as it copes with the odd extreme lows better.

i use premium. bum dyno tells me i get more hp and torque out of premium

always used asda fuel with no problems......(queue fuel brand debate.......again. ) ... - .- -.

Normal or premium ??
The answer definitely changes as you move around Europe.
In the UK I honestly can’t tell any difference between supermarket diesel and Shell or BP fuel.
Move across to France and the difference is obvious
Cheap supermarket diesel causes significant more engine noise and reduced MPG..

I have also noticed significantly better MPG in Spain and Portugal when I avoid cheap supermarket fuel.

All effectively the same stuff to the same standard when it first leaves the refinery - the difference is down to the cetane improver and detergents added to make it "premium".

So Trimmels logic - and I don't disagree - you could put your own additive in cheaper fuel.
That would be an interesting test.

It might be a local issue too. Close to me there is a morrisons fuel, I have only ever used it 3times in 3 different cars, and each time, shortly after I have had the 'water in fuel' warning come along.
And also, the Texaco closest to me always makes my Full Fat feel so much smoother, like silk.
Can't saying ever noted a difference from using any premium. However I regularly add the red ex dispel fuel cleaner, and that definately does make it feel smoother and gets me about another 50 miles out of a tank.

Since buying my 3.6tdv8 L322 and having the egr valves replaced I've been using Shell V Power diesel, ran down to Cornwall and back last month and it ran very smooth. Since getting back and doing more short journeys it's still a pleasure to drive.

Mine seems to prefer Shell or Esso over Supermarket fuels, as did the D3 and D2 before that; not really sure why, as they should all meet the same standard.

There have also been a few horror stories over the years about fuel pump failures (not just L-R) after filling up at Tesco etc ... Regards,

For me a Shell Fuel Card and the many Shell stations is the answer. Same quality fuel with inbuilt additives every time cannot harm.

@mike [baltic blue] re france, i saw loads of police filling up at the e.leclerc pumps and considering the hard work they do ,the fuel cant be that bad..
