Awful rattle

I’ve had a terribly annoying noise occur since fitting deployable side steps. It’s like the noise made by a ruler on a desk when you hold one side and bend and release the other. It occurs over every bump, and when any door is shut.

So Saturday I set about removing dash trim to locate it. I stripped side panels, footwell, glove boxes, vents, and vent trim, pillar trim, speaker trim and eventually the top of the dash. Even with all that removed and every cable cable tied it was still there....

Then, swmbo closed the boot lid while I was by windscreen and I noticed the trim made a noise. It felt like it ought to be tighter so I removed the rubber mounting lug things and refitted a bit firmer.

Noise still there.

I then went to reconnect the battery and while in there caught my hand on a sharp point of a cut cable tie...... but eureka the cable tie was around the positive lead which comes from the positive terminal and loops behind the battery somewhere...... but should fit onto a fitting and not be floating..... it was resting against the edge of the battery box and resonating thru the cabin.....

So after all that trim removal, it was just a loose cable under the bonnet!!!!!!

Grrrrrr!

Anyway, all back together with much care and attention and finally have a quiet cabin again! __

I drove me missus mad on the way into London the other day, I could hear a vibration and had heard for for over a week, and I was sure it was around the passenger side A pillar trim area, or passenger door card, I had just bought new door panel clips all round and although the speakers no longer vibrate with lots of bass the noise I could hear was still there. I was asking her to press on all the trim but she wasn't interested, a bit of an argument ensued and she shouted "Well I think it is coming from your side you OCD moron!".

We left it at that. Big Cry

While walking the dog across Clapham Common I was thinking about that, the fact I was sure it was her side, she said it was my side. Went back to the car and looked at everything in the centre of the car.

It was my sunglasses in the overhead storage compartment. Laughing Porsche 911 (996)

I had an annoying noise the other day and i was thinking 'what now' turned off the radio, it was still there, opened the window, it was still there, revved the engine and it was still there.
I was just getting to the why me stage when i looked at my phone - it was a reminder alarm going off. Thank fudge for that !
