Red DPF Full Warning Again!

Had an amber DPF warning come up just over a month ago.

Did the regen process - motorway for 30 miles at 2,500+ RPM.

Warning cleared, then almost immediately I got the red one.

Car recovered to local RR dealer ... where it spent the best part of the next 4 weeks.

They did the turbo oil drain mod. And - I guess - a forced regen.

Had my car back for 10 days when the amber DPF warning came up last night.

I've only driven 100 odd miles since getting it back. All in town, but still couldn't believe I'd get the warning so quickly - it used to be once every month or so.

Did the motorway regen thing again this morning. Warning cleared. Then 5 miles later I get the red DPF warning again!

Am waiting for the dealer to call me back. But does anyone have any idea what's causing this?

All help gratefully received.

you dont have to drive at +2500 rpm, a steady 50mph for around 15 minutes will clear the dpf....maybe your excessive 'rpm' is causing the problem..... ... - .- -.

As I have the technical knowledge of a gerbil, I'm simply following what it says to do in the manual.

Have always followed this and - until the last 2 times - had no problems at all.

Refer to my 4.4 tdV8 Fault Log Post.
I would be double checking for an air leak on the inlet manifold:-

1) A split in one of the four short rubber hoses. ( Are they the original design or modified?? type )
2) A split in either the plastic plenum chamber or one of the manifolds.

A dealer would probably check it out using a smoke test , but a thorough visual inspection should spot any problem.

this is from the WM and explains how the dpf regen works,

it could be a faulty sensor that is giving false info.. ... - .- -.

You're quite correct, Stan - apologies.

The 2,500+ bit is from the AA the last time I got the red warning.

It could be a faulty sensor giving “false alarms” ??

I've wondered about the sensors too.

Waiting for dealer to come and collect my car.

Just hope they don't keep it for four weeks again.

And maybe, just maybe, they'll call me back when they say they will.

They've only got to do it once and they'll do better than the last time they had my car.

Useless!

Lookers Chipperfield

It's such a shame ... before it was sold to Lookers, this was - in my experience - a great dealership.

When, some years back, Lookers took over 4 weeks to source a plug lead for my Omega, my wife fielded the call from their Head of Parts. My complaint that I'd been walking past said lead in Halfords since they'd had the car had been raised at a management meeting.

Today my mere 7-year old Skoda was in for MOT at the local main dealer. I checked in, had a cup of the free coffee, after an hour or so was offered a free bacon sandwich. They had had to send out for more bacon as one of the cars had arrived for service with 4 people in it and I was sitting in the furthest comfy chair. The car passed, had been taken for a road test to listen for a rattle, and was returned cleaned inside and out. Total cost £39.

I always recommend the Skoda (Mazda and Lexus) dealer. Lookers is still the local Vauxhall dealer. Vauxhall, on last night's news are laying off one shift at their local factory. Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

A quick update - for anyone interested ...

A very nice chap from LR Assist came out - called by the garage.

He did a forced regen which, of course, cleared the warning. And updated the software for the engine control module.

But ...

As he had his computer thing plugged in all the time, he noticed the soot level went up during the first 20 mins of the regen - from 28g to 31g - before then clearing down.

And when he opened the bonnet after the regen he smelt and spotted wisps of smoke. Yhis could be what's stopping the car successfully doing the automatic regen.

So I now need to have a smoke test done.

Interestingly he said when you get the amber warning to drive the car for 15 -20 mins keeping the revs at 2,000
