Ireland 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey
2007 to 2011

Hi all , been thinking about changing for a while and have seen a couple of 4.4 tdv8s that might fit the bill. My 2007 VSE has 250k kilometres on it now and as i do about 45k kilometres a year i think its time to change. Over here ( ireland ) a 2011 is about 40k and a 2012 is about the same.

Ive seen a 2011 VSE , only issue is its on 22" kahns which isnt me. I've pmd a member on this site about his Westminster wheels so thats an easy enough fix.

My other option is a 2012 Westminster but its standard so low on spec. There is only 1k price difference. The VSE is a dealer so i can part ex my 2007 but the Westminster is private so i then need to sell mine privately.

My question is , anyone have any bad points i should look for. The indie i use will be giving the car an inspection but hes a BMW specialist and hasnt much experience with a 4.4 tdv8 so any pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance. Car is having inspection tuesday. 2015 4.4 AB

dolph34,

if you read Baltic Blue tread you will see not much going wrong with 2011 TDV8.

The 4.4 is very good. 700nm of torque means it pulls like an Intercity 125.

Mike (baltic blue) has been recently creating this post http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic44115.html which details the common faults. Many (e.g. starter motor) will have been done under warranty but check through the service history with a fine tooth. Look for what's been done then compare against Mike's list - to see what hasn't been done.

The biggy is the turbo drain which is reasonably harmless but can cause the RR to be a smoker. This can then fill up the DPF which given the chance to knacker it (the DPF) will be expensive.

Then there are oil leaks in top/rear of the V, one from an o-ring (easy fix) and the other from the manifold. Again read through Mike's list.

Don't forget to check the rear arches too.

Good luck.

Greg Cheers, Greg

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Baltic Blue

Dolph 34,
Good evening, I have just spent the day travelling home from holiday in Portugal so first thing tomorrow I will be getting my 4.4tdv8 (BB) out of the garage and going for a run. I just know I will come back with a smile on my face after 4 weeks absence.
You are obviously no stranger to L322’s so will be aware of general wear and tear type issues common to all varieties, eg, suspension air bags, drop links, brake disc scores etc, etc., but I think I proved that the 2010/2012 4.4 tdv8’s are extremely reliable and save for a few weaknesses which in the main are not major issues are great cars to own.

I hope you find a good one and enjoy it for many thousands of miles (or Kilometres;)

Cheers

Have a drive of the 4.4 before you decide on a remap. It’s fairly rapid as it is! Not sure that there is anyone on here who has had a remap done on here as at over 300 hp and 700nm it’s got more than enough grunt. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Dolph that’s a tough choice. My 2008 tdv8 has similar km and I keep looking around at the 4.4.

Was there any change in the 4.4 L322 from 2010 to 2012 or MY11 to MY12? ______________________________

Thanks NM , my indie is a Quantum agent so a good deal on a remap is available and i got my 3.6 remapped by him and it flies. Ive driven a few 4.4 tdv8s and mine is much quicker. I appreciate it may be that the 4.4 is smoother so maybe doesn't ' feel ' as fast but its nice to have the extra grunt. I think the remap gives 390 hp and 820 Nm Torque, also not sure if DPF can ne turned off. I dont drive particularly hard but its nice to have the grunt when you want it. 2015 4.4 AB

Hi Rar, it seems the spec dropped as the years went on with the L322. Even the SE im looking at has less than my 2007 as standard and the 2012 Westminster less again. My 2007 had new turbos back in feb and drives well but the digital dash , 8 speed gearbox and less miles are what are deciding me to change. Part of me thinks keep.the 2007 and spend the cash to keep it in great condtion but if im honest i do fancy a change even though to most people the 2007 and 2011 are almost identical externally. 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks dolph. I go through the same back and forth. I’ve replaced the transmission, front struts and alternator. So turbos are about all that’s left, and the roof is peeling. Keep it or upgrade to the last and arguably best L322. ______________________________

Hi all , i have the 2011 SE on a couple of days trial, lovely drive , bit quieter than my 2007 and the adaptive cruise is a gem , not as quick as my 2007 but think i will do the deal tomorrow. Typically i was driving the 2007 last night and an suspension airbag developed a leak !!!! Another 150 euro on the day before i part exchange it !!!!

Love the digital dash on the 2011 and undecided about the gear Knob , seems to be an effort to change from everse to drive but i presume i will get used to it.

Just a few rambling thoughts and kids gave their blessing to change Very Happy 2015 4.4 AB

Hi all, I have the 2011 VSE for a week now. Biggest difference is the gearbox. The 2011 doesn't really rev over 2k which makes a relaxing drive. I had my 2007 VSE until a few days ago and was able to drive it back to back against the 2011. It was surprising how close the refinement was almost equal and a testament to the RR marque.

The dealer i bought the 2011 from lent my 2007 to a customer of his who had crashed his 2010 FFRR. The customer drove it home and called the dealer and bought it !!!! Same customer called in yesterday to my office for a chat ( he had collected 2007 with dealer ). This gentleman was so pleased with my 2007 i had a few moments of regret !!!!!! He was over the moon with the car and said it was a much nicer drive than his 2010. He was particularly impressed with the power ( remapped )

Anyway back to the 2011, i have ordered the deployable side steps, grest price from Matlings, i have ordered the illuminated sill plates , incredibly cheap ( so much so , im very wary but will report back if they are correct ).

I have new mudflaps ordered to suit deployable steps and a full interior LED bulb kit.

The car is booked in for all oils , engine , gearbox, diffs and a remap next week and the only other addition i want is to change the front fogs to DRLs. I have seen a few kits varying in price from 30 to 130 stg. Im leaning towards the 130 set as the are a direct replacement with halo for DRL and retaining the fog ability.

Seats are being removed for re dyeing to two tone as per Autobiography option from 2011.

I have also returned my non BT tool to gap in exchange for a BT version. They offer a great deal on part exchange.

Only other change so far is the 22" Kahns are gone and been replaced with year correct 20" style 11s.

A few pics below ( already posted in another thread ) car with style 11s isnt mine but will posted ones of mine shortly.
