A couple of things to try.
If the passenger side is OK try swapping over the filters. If that works try running it without the filter.

With regard to the overheat, the control module applies a voltage to the junction and measures the temperature. If the temperature is too high for the voltage then it reports a fault and will shut down. I believe it does this for both back and Base.
The fact your getting the fault code means the module is likely working OK as its both heating and reoorting a temperature. It's probably the fan not managing to pass enough air through it.

As Greg posted above these units are very similar if not the same as the ford F150 climate seats. Not that surprising as they were owned by Ford at the time.
Ford have now replaced the filters with a plastic disc with a bunch of holes in it. No idea if this will fit ours as I haven't tried yet.

Apparently you should be able to see these temperatures reported by the seat module using the obd diagnostics tool.
Has anyone tried this and can confirm if it's possible ? Too many toys, not enough time

Currently no filter fitted in the base unit John. I left it out so I can feel if the fan is running while diagnosing...

I'll look at the ducting on the base unit next, maybe cracked and causing a block following your logic.

I'll check to see if the IIDTool can read temperatures.

Greg, I noted the following in the WM pages:

Quote:
DTC codes listed that have 7A or 98 following the code signify a possible air leak or air flowrestriction within the system

So this would suggest all your modules are working correctly, but your seat back has an air leak or is blocked.

The WM also says any faults will shut down the system until next ignition cycle off/on.


Also, just to confirm, both seat base and back units have temperature and motor speed feedback. If either has a fault though both will be shut off.

Thanks for the great info John - it certainly makes sense that both the back and base units have temperature feedback.

I can confirm they are the same had seat back off to day. Had the back fan running cold then hot (but not much heat) maybe because I had the back off? They need some pressure perhaps. When I turned the base heater on it cut out completely. So guessing I need the cushion unit?

It does sound like your seat base blower is faulty Dano - do you have access to a code reader?

I guess you could pull the blower from the passenger seat to double check - the blowers are not exactly cheap.

Yes I’ll try get codes read. I wasn’t sure if the driver and Passanger side were the same if they are I could just swap them over as I never sit that side any way. I’ve definitely got heat on the back panel now so it’s just the bottom that’s the issue.

Dan, does the fan run on the Base when on cold ?

If it does, it's obviously not the fan. Just take the filter off so you can see, and have a listen.
I assume your passenger unit works OK ? Worth checking before you pull the seat apart Wink

The actual fan motor is the same for both sides, as is the peltier unit. I haven't removed my passenger one so not sure if the mouldings are the same. I can't see why they would be different, but you could always swap the bits over if they were.

Yes all runs good on cold you can hear and feel the motor work and sucking by the intake. Passanger one works fine. Will try get it plugged in.

Just an update on mine.

Last week I fitted the new unit in the seat back and it wouldn't turn on.
Until I used the control knob to isolate the base, and it worked.

I only tried this with the new unit so thinking I might have not needed the
new one after all, I reconnected the old one today and tried running it with
the seat base switched off as above.

However the old one with patched up cracked ducting is a definite failure,
the blower runs but after 10min not heat whatsoever.

And of course this all means I've had a double unit failure.
And I need to buy a new base unit now.

Unlucky as it's usually just the back unit that goes.

John, the old one is back on it's way to you for a fettle.

That is really annoying Greg and does seem you have been very unlucky if the base blower has gone too. It is odd though because all the posts I have ever read have always been about the back blower. Still, I guess there is always a first time.

From the online Microcat link in the Wiki, the back blowers share the same part number: HK500060 but the base blowers seem to be LR014533 for the right seat and LR014532 for the left seat. So - another annoyance that you can't switch your existing base blowers to see if the problem moves.

I would double check those part numbers with Dan or whoever your preferred parts supplier is first before you pull the trigger - the LH blower seems to come up correctly in a google search but the RH one seems to be described as a seat movement motor! Current Cars:

Thanks Clabs.

So yesterday I attempted to removed the seat base unit. In the WM it says tilt seat back so I removed two front seat bolts and loosened the rears. Sure enough, access works ok like this. Better than removing the seat. But the space is limited by the base plate so it's still tight.

Anyway I unscrewed the front three torx screws that hold the motor end and the electrical connector. But I couldn't remove the unit from the seat base. Will have to consult the WM again today. I was able to check the ducting which looked sound, no cracks. Since I couldn't remove it, since it was now unplugged I thought I'd run the GAP tool:

Which gives the B1223-13 (2F) circuit open error as you'd expect. (The other error is weird, because the seat back gets as warm as a pie.)

So then as I couldn't get the unit out, I just thought I'd plug it back in and make sure the circuit open error cleared. Which it did:

So then I ran both the base and back heaters for 20 mins. Surprise: both working! Fan kept running and the base warmed up.

I'm dubious as that happened before. So I'll test again on my next drive.

What I don't get are the two different seat back errors. B1231-7A (2F) and B122F-98 (2F)

But i've fitted a brand new unit back there. And it's running nice and warm on the seat back, has done now for two weeks.

I might look at the seat back connector block terminals etc. etc. Could it be a shoddy connector somewhere maybe?

Will report back.
