2018MY dilemnas

Just about to confirm my order for a 2018MY 5.0SC AB.

I see a few colours have been dropped and a few added for this year. My heart tells me I want a black car but Farallon has gone just leaving Santorini for sensibly priced metallic paint. Borrealis looks really nice but I think is more grey than black. Ethereal looks different for a really light colour but its so new I can't even find a sample anywhere.

What's the deal with the 10" rear screens? I'm told they are not bluetooth compatible so cannot accept a streaming source, only hard wired USB or HDMI. Perhaps out of date already?

Is the Meridien Signature system substantially better than the standard Meridien system fitted to the AB?

I'm a bit confused by the full sized spare wheel option as it doesn't appear to take up any extra boot space compared to the space saver.

Rear Seat Entertainment - yep - out of date already - better off with a couple of iPads IMHO

The Signature system is better - whether it justifies the £'s only you can decide - you need to listen to both

The wheel well is the same size - with a space saver they just put a polystyrene disc under the spare to pad it out. Space saver in this instance is just weight and cost saver Whistle

Just for balance - some love the RSE though - tends to be those with very young kids - the advantage the system does have is that you can control it from the front.

I was a real believer in the head restraint mounted rear seat entertainment. Unlike using an iPad, it’s always there, never had to be hidden away from thieves, integrated brilliantly into the car’s sound system, so even the driver could listen in and didn’t present the crash hazard of strapping a metal and rigid plastic support structure and a piece of glass in a child’s face impact area!

But this system (which had always been an option, but was usually turned down when the standard RSE screens were still available at less than half the price!) is very expensive, will date quickly, is in the way and vulnerable to damage. Replacement screens will need to be ordered from LR, at a million pounds each, as soon as they get broken and it’s only a matter of time before they get disconnected and removed.

Not sure what the best alternative is though Sad

The one thing that I really dislike with the 10" RSE in the new L405, is that you cannot avvoid getting the DVD/CD player as part of this option. And who needs a CD/DVD player today? It would be better to have the upper glove box for something else!
BTW: Tested a Volvo XC90 T8 today. The Volvo has both Apple car play and android auto. Neat Thumbs Up It would have been nice if LR could introduce that. However, testing the XC90 T8 up the very steep gravel driveway at our summer house, was very dissapointing... The L322 has a far far better 4x4 system than the Volvo!

I’m not a technological Luddite in particular but, seeing as you ask, I use DVD’s and even CD’s quite a bit, especially in the car; I wouldn’t want to spend this much on a car and not have the facility.

I don't think the RSE is outdated. Just put a roku or similar device into the hdmi slot and you can stream anything to it. In my opinion hdmi is much more worthwhile than bluetooth.

Or plug an Apple TV into the domestic plug socket and HDMI port and stream wirelessly.

I suppose I can help a little in relation to the Hifi as I've had the signature in one AB I owned.. Truth is I was not overwhelmed by it TBH. That's not to say it's not a good sound system but the trouble is the standard is so good in comparison the only real difference I noticed is that I'd turn it up slightly louder on the standard system/. In the real world I'd never pay any significant premium for it. I expected it to be four thousand pounds better and to me it ws no where near to that.

Can't help regarding the RSE as I've had them but have never used them but if I had kids in the back I'd be with iPads for occasional use as the headrest tv are a bit small. 2016 SDV8 Autobiography
And several others previously.
