Moving forward, yes a great move & the wife would love it, enough room to install a small hob & sink unit, oh and a dressing table and mirror. This would make every wife feel at home. I just hope my wife does not see this post. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Private car traffic is falling, it’s roadworks, bike lanes, traffic management and delivery vehicles that make it so congested.

The road repair programme in London is a total joke, also the introduction of the cycle super highway which reduces the carriageway dramatically. These cycle lanes are hardly used to justify the miions spent building them. Once again, big wigs sitting behind a desk and not in touch with reality.

To reply to the OP about the 4.4 petrol not being subject to the charge, that may be because the charge is aimed at diesels who kick out Nitrous oxides which are killing more people than the CO2 emissions. So the extra CO2 from the petrol is not as bad as the huge amounts of crap that come out of diesels.

The issue is not about the black soot pushed out the tail pipe, I fully understand the dangers. The topic is about the charge being a stealth tax. If Sadiq Khan was that concerned about pollution then ban diesels 24/7. If they are so dangerous why allow them after 18.00 hrs and all day weekends and bank holidays not just the hours of business to hit the hard working public. If it was such a big issue as they state then a blanket ban on diesels. I don't see the railways being penalised for polluting diesel locomotives, Air craft emitting dangerous toxings or HGV and PCV. It's a clear case of hit the easiest, the motorists.

It’s not a petrol/diesel split - they both have to be Euro 4/IV to avoid the charge.

As above, it’s compliance with Euro 4/IV, so a requirement for new type approvals from Jan 2005 and then everything from Jan 2006 (although some older cars comply).

Oh but they are very much in touch with reality, this will bring in hundreds of thousands of £££. And the cut off in an evening will give them the excuse that they have allowed for loading and unloading of goods on trucks that don't comply. If anyone questions why trains etc are allowed in then they'll just say we allowed for trucks but trains have to stick to a time schedule so we can't penalise them.

As said in an earlier post, London voted the jerk in, now deal with it. Laughing

TBH don't think it made any difference to the charge whoever they voted in. It would still have happened. John

Just ran my 2003 4.4 petrol through the toxic charge and it is liable to the charge.

these charges are great but there must be loads whom have invested in a car and cant afford to just replace them deffo stealth tax . But they just want cars and vans in London , likely I don't go to the smoke much now ,but public transport is so unrealible especially when your disabled

Would a protest where everyone commutes by horseback or handsome cab work? It would leave them with some pollution of a highly particulate nature, but rather larger than 2.5 microns.
