Just about to swap my BCU under the pass seat (symptoms are small probs such as intermittent parking sensors; rear pass door not unlocking every time; power steering heavy)

1. Is it able to be driven after swap but before it is reprogrammed?

2. Ref the reprogramme, what obd Readers can do it or is it a dealer job only?

Thanks for that - I have already got that set up as my bible for doing the job but have no iid tool, hence the questions; will I be able to drive it to my dealer/ Indy with the new bcu not having been programmed?

Can any obd tool do the reprogramme or just iid? It sounds like a bit more complicated given that GAP had to send a special download.

I don’t know if this will help but when I bought my L322 it had various things that weren’t working as they should, interior lights coming on when the door was closed not on opening, central locking not working as it should etc. In conversation and subsequent investigations with Pat at GAP it was determined that the wrong firmware update had been loaded onto my BCU.

So it was like having no BCU fitted but the car drove perfectly, it just misbehaved in the interior lights, locking and sunroof depts.

Right big hand to Bechtoon for his "how to"!!

Have just changed the BCU (The replacement is most recent Model Number (YWC000922 - the one fitted in mine was a YWC000921) and it has cured the Power Steering issue but not the rear Pass door unlock or the intermittent parking sensor fault (loud continuous tone on reversing out after being parked but fine when reversing into park space after driving).

Question:

1. Does the part number have to match? (YWC000921 Vs YWC000922). could this cause the failure to correct the other 2 faults?

The part number for the BCU I got from Ducky Dan was YWC000923. I think the old one (Nov 2004 Fatty) was YWC000922 as my old files (car sold almost a year ago) seem to suggest that was the part number I was searching for.

All other info I've found suggests that each part supersedes the previous and provides the same functions.

As you'll have seen from my post in the Wiki, replacing the BCU cured a multitude of problems on my car, including rear door locking and rear parking sensor gremlins.

Could anybody show me where this BCU exactly is? I swapped a full water bottle and since that the locking system and mirrors and window control don't work as they should...

Is there any possible way to reset this BCU ?

On a left-hand drive car (not sure if it's the same for a RHD ...) the BCU is under the front passenger seat.

I'm afraid I can't help with your question about resetting it - maybe someone more knowledgeable will be able to help?
Meanwhile, in case you haven't already done so, try drying it thoroughly (maybe with a hair-drier on a low setting?)
