Bad Fuel pump?

I did the bypass of the fuel pump relay in the rear right fuse panel with no noise coming from fuel pump. Is this at least 99% indicative of a bad fuel pump?

When mine was cranking and not starting it was immobilised but I had a code in the immobiliser ECU to do with the engine ECU not synced.
I got all sorts of weird readings off my multi meter when I checked the wiring to the fuel pump relay so I lifted up the rear seat to access the fuel pump and when I connected the pump to Earth and live it ran so as long as you have connected up to the correct wires then I would say your pump is dead.

This is just an update. Pump is not yet back in but this just made me shake my head.

For those that don't know the pump on the right is the correct new pump. There was a sleeve holding the smaller pump in place.

Wiring attachments are different and they look spliced in. Both hot and ground have bare spots.

The strainer end of the old pump had a smaller diameter. A piece of PVC black pipe and Teflon plumber's tape were used to make a fit.

Here is the piece removed. Now to fix the wiring.

I'm impressed this pump lasted this long.

That is unbelievable!

The extent people will go to to fit the incorrect part astounds me.

Hey I'm all for using what you have in a pinch but then get the right stuff when it's available. This will be interesting to see if the weak pump and bad setup is causing the lambda code by way of lean fuel. I have read it can and another on this forum had the same before his pump went out.

The beast lives again! Pain in the butt to do. The videos make it look so easy. Perhaps no garage and 50 f degree weather didn't help.

Warm for you folks. 10c is about the 7th circle of Dante's hell for us. Summer averages in the low 30's c for us. Cold and old plastic makes me nervous. The cold made rolling the carpet back impossible so I ran a cord and electric heater to warm the cab. Made it much easier. But once the tank was open I thought it a bad idea to mix petrol fumes and electric heaters.
My 2 major pain moments were getting the fuel lines off and reconnecting the multi plug/fuel pipe lines. The video I found said the fuel lines had a squeeze release. Tried for an hour. Searched again and found a write-up saying to lift up on the red clip while pressing down on the fuel elbow. Took quite a bit of lift with a plastic claw foot I made and wiggle of the elbow.
Getting the multi plug/fuel pipes back on I need to use some vaseline on the O rings and use a ling thin screwdriver at the center back of the fuel pipes and the lip of the tank as a fulcrum. Of course I didn't figure this out until about an hour of trying to hand press it in.

It’s like all the jobs I do, once you have done them once you could probably do it again in a quarter of the time or less.
Nice win for you that one, what’s next ..... Smile

So true. What next? Good question. Needs are the following: Headliner, lift gate trim refinishing, Android head unit, parasitic battery drain, left headlight wiper motor, install new radiator (pin hole leak so no rush), install new struts and rear shock (I have a cheap mechanic with a lift for that), new tires this Wednesday, fix left rear passenger seat belt catch, right rear panel rust coming through, left outside A pillar trim replaced, rear washer check valve, transmission drain and filter change, replace air quality sensor, sort out a way to stop the stuck thermostat code from being tripped. I guess the parasitic drain should be on my priority list.

Forgot to mention the tilt and telescopic functions.

If your left headlight wiper is still connected that could be your parasite too.
I do like a list and the good thing about the fatty is it is never ending Smile

I forgot the floppy side mirrors. I did pull the fuse for the wipers a while back. Got tired of resetting it.
