Without going into too much personal details which I am not going to do, I thought this may be of interest - these are the costs of running a new Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8 over 5 years @12k miles per year :-

Total Purchase Price £85k with options @ 2011 / 2012 - sale price now after 5 years £20k.

Depreciation = £65k or £13k per year.

Approx Annual totals :

Depreciation £13k
Insurance £350
Tax £550
Service and brakes £750
Tyres £300
Fuel £3000
Total £17950 per year

The above is on a car purchased outright and does not include any finance - I assume this would add £1k to £2k a year in round about figures depending on how much you borrow.

Thus you are looking at £19k / £20k a year.... edited to add I forgot to also include the LR Extended Warranty at £1600 for the latter years. I.e. Total cost could be around £21.5 a year in the latter years.

Your annual depreciation is what I paid for my 'new' RR.

I don’t think I’ll bother to work out the equivalent for 35,000 miles a year!

I think that makes the case for buying a car (any car except that of SWMBO) that is a few years old. That why I am looking at low mileage 3.0L V6 diesels of about 2014 vintage, lower road tax, lower fuel costs, lower depreciation - for me adequate (never off road, never towing, never racing along about 10,000/year miles) but still an imposing vehicle and a nice place to sit. Tyres, Insurance and servicing- can't fix that but if I get Land Rover approved warranty and get it serviced by other than a main dealer should save a few quid. Thats what I'm telling her anyway, she never comes back from shopping saying how much she spent but always how much she saved - I'll do the same and say swapping my Range Rover saves us money .........  Geoff

I bought mine after the £65 depreciation. Then enjoy the smug feeling knowing mine cost £85k new!

If I hit the reset button, I could still estimate it'll loose £1k per year from here on.
But I won't do that, it's better to bury your head in the sand and enjoy the ride every day.

Suggest we all the do same! Maybe we should ask Stan to delete this topic?

Just for comparison of depreciation costs......
I bought my previous FF, a 2004 Td6 Vogue as a 2yr old LR Approved for £21k. Having been very fortunate to be offered early retirement terms, after 9years of purely social domestic and pleasure use, mainly very long holidays visiting every corner of Europe I got £9k trade in for it against my 2011 costing £29k.
£12,000 depreciation over 9 years of trouble free pleasure equates to £1,333/year.

Expect a late L322 has taken a bigger hit with the arrival of the L405 - early L405s with higher miles are only recently dropping under £40k retail.

the 2012 run out FF's seem to be in demand because they are the last of the 'proper' range rovers..

Funnily enough everyone said the same about the Classic in 1996, then the P38, and now the L322.

I also disliked the P38, L322 and L405 when launched but grew to like them and the vast improvements they offered.... 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Those figures are pretty similar to mine for my S/C apart from the fuel of course, which adds approx £2,000 per year and the depreciation, which hasn't been so savage.

I decided to keep mine at 5 years old, rather than move to a 405 and I'm sure it was worth more than £20k at the time, more like £30k, which evens out the extra fuel cost.

Now it's probably worth about £8k, as it's much lower down the depreciation curve, so it's worked out at just over £1 per mile, all in over 10 years.
