Is this ticking noise normal?

I have just driven my 2012 4.4tdv8 240 miles over 5 hours and noticed this engine sound when parked up and revved lightly. I also noticed it the other day when going down a hill. Is it normal?

desktop diagnosis on a video is going to go from the extreme of 'it's your bottom end knocking, don't drive it,get it looked at asap it's not going to be cheap' right down to 'ye it's the idler pulley, it'll be fine, mines done it for the past 25k'.

Either way it's not normal and I would definitely be investigating sooner rather than later. Current

Sounds like idler pulley to me.

My aircon pulley was squeeling in the mornings on first start up so I drowned it in wd40.... which then washed out the remainder of the grease from the bearing and it sounded just like that.

I managed to strip and regrease mine so you might get lucky.

Ps, I'd get it looked at asap regardless.

Thank you, it is booked into the garage tomorrow. They believe it might be the fuel pump, but it is going in nevertheless Smile

Garage has checked it over and the idler pulleys seem to be the cause Smile

Idler pulleys replaced and the noise remains to some extent. In speaking with the garage apparently the 4.4 tdv8 is a noisy engine and many do have a light ticking?

The noise remains. After the lr specialist had it for three days, and noise remained, I took it to. LR main dealer who confirmed it didn't sound right. They found the oil overfilled by far, drained it to the right level and then checked codes but nothing explained the ticking. They think it could be related to wrong oil being used, compounded with a high number of dpf regens, putting crap in the oil! I only bought the car two weeks ago with a three month warranty. So it is back to garage tomorrow to see if they can fix it!
