Does my headlight conversion need relays ?

I have a 2010 conversion on my car ( done before I bought it ), and now the RH front indicator has stopped blinking.

Now, have a little look at the wiring, it appears that the lights have been fitted via the use of relays .. there are 2 fixed near to each of the lights. I can hear one of the relays clicking when the indicator should be lighting. (goodness knows what the other relay is for! ). There are also some resistors attached near to the relays.

The other thing with my lights is that the little LED side lights are on all the time ... and so are the headlights unless you have it set at the side-light position. It does my head in.

But its got me wondering, do the conversions normally need relays ? Having a look round seems to suggest not, and that most conversions are just a case of swapping a few wires.

Do you think it would be worth my while trying to remove the relays and getting the system back to the way it should be ? V8 or else ...
