ELECTRICAL WIRING TECHNICAL QUESTION RHS Repeater

So this failed on the MOT, it stopped working when I tried to jump the car on the wiring after being locked out - the wires melted into each other.

I cut them out and have pulled them through the wing and taped them dead.

I have put together two wires, one I couldn't reach C-0550-0 so Instead I split the earth wire on the Front Indicator, and earthed into it there, as is shown on the circuit diagram anyway.

For the live UY 0.5 I cut off the old wire at the plug at C-0937-14to the Light check module and ran a new wire through the rubber boot that goes through the firewall from the cabin to the engine bay and then taped together with my earth and fed through the wing.

Everything tested up with a meter for continuity and we are all good.

I reconnected the battery and wacked on the hazard - nothing lighting in the repeater.

I am yet to try with another bulb - one is arriving in the post tomorrow- I think this is unlikely as there was continuity through the bulb.

Here is the problem - I think that the circuit in the Light check module is fried, if so I need to splice in elsewhere.

My Question is two fold....

1. I'm 90% certain that I can splice into C-0937-6 and get the same signal - could someone please confirm?

2. But C-0937-6 uses a 0.75 mm wire and the front bulb is 21 Watts rather than 5 Watts, so my idea was to introduce a resistor from UN, 0.75 to the UY 0.5 in order to take into account that there is a higher current coming from C-0937-6, as per my sketch, but what sort of resistor would I need from Maplin...?

Awaiting the most awesome of answers!!! Thumbs Up

If it was me I would be inclined to change the lamps in the side repeater fittings to led to minimise the current to them. I would then connect your diff side repeater into C-0937-6 as you indicate. Given the minimal current to the side repeater led added to the 21W of the front indicator I suspect the protecting mosfet in the lcm might not notice. Smile
Hopefully doing this won’t show any lamp faults. Thumbs Up
The alternative would be to do the job properly, replace the lcm and rewire the side repeater.

So the Repeater is already wired correctly - it just doesn't work.

Just swapping out the LCM should solve the job? I'm guessing that is the only issue

From what you describe it would seem so. Thumbs Up

Can I buy any LCM? Do they have to be coded to the car?

A new lcm will require to be programmed to your car, a used one will put a red dot on your instrument panel indicating the mileage and vin is incorrectly recorded.
It is possible to have your existing lcm remanufactured for a modest amount to overcome the above problem.
Try eBay, item eBay Item No. 232551240558

Thank you nicedayforit.

So to solve it I splice a new live into the plug by the LCM, punched a hole through the rubber boot in the firewall and spliced the earth into the front indicator's earth.

I ended up getting hold of an LCM from the wonderful forum member Zebedee which hasn't thrown out a warning and passed the MOT whoop whoop!

I've now got a spare LCM which I think I'll get re-conditioned in the new year - the ebay chap says that circuit will be no problem

Good to hear you got it sorted, definitely worth getting your lcm refurbished for what it costs. Thumbs Up
