I have a 50,000 very high spec 4.4 SDV8 AB and being 4 years old now, its due a change, but to be frank....why? I just cannot see the need to dump £60 or £70 k on the same car. I know this doesn't exactly fit with what we are meant to think when our ashtrays are full, but really I still love my car. The trim is perfect and the specification top dog. Perhaps I am thinking of a 5.0 S/C but as I tow a lot of heavy car trailers , I am unsure whether anything could be better than the SDV8. In 28 years of new Range Rovers I can honestly say, that I am not rushing to the showroom to update. The SV AB is too bling 9 sorry to those who have them, I am getting old) and nothing about the 2018 makes it worth the money to change. Am I missing something? 2006 S/C owned from new. I suppose you need to drive a L405. I’ve never had the pleasure. I get what you are saying, a 2012 L322 AB will be hard to improve on. But everyone who has driven a L405 says they are nicer to drive.

It’s thanks to blokes like you that blokes like me get to buy a good affordable used FFRR. So keep handing them down. 😄 ______________________________

I’m not totally sure but from the post I think the op already has a 2013 L405.

I have a great deal of sympathy with his dilemma, which is why I’d thoroughly recommend buying a nearly new over a brand new. For sure there are things that are compromises when buying something that someone else has specced rather than choosing exactly what you want but I’d bet that the figure to change would be a lot nearer to £25k than £70k if buying a very nice 12-18month old SDV8. 2016 SDV8 Autobiography

Yes indeed , I do have an L405 already. I have had quite a few niggles it being an early car, but now its (currently) sorted and running well, it really is unbeatable. If the facelift had been more obvious Land Rover may have sucked me into a change or some new and exciting engine had come along. i suppose what I am saying is a veiled compliment, that really my car is as good as a new one, and looks the same. I think you've answered your own question - stick with what you know. There's always the risk that a new / nearly new L405 will have niggles which you've sorted on yours.
Also, a 2013 AB is worth, what, £50k according to Auto Trader. A 2017 nearly new one would be £90k for a top spec car. Now, if you had £40k to spend, what would you treat yourself with? That might help you to decide? Nice dilemma to have though!

If your current one is running well there seems little point in changing at the moment. I suspect your cars taken the biggest depreciation hit already, to keep it for another 2/3 years wont loose as anywhere near as much £'s.

If you had a TDV6 there might be the urge to go for a SDV8, or if yours was a Vogue, you might have wanted to consider an AB, however you already own a high spec SDV8 AB.

The significant cost to change would give you a colour change, new media system, a new warranty and service pack on pretty much the same car.

Well I think it seems I may be finally growing out of the need to have the latest! I shall stick with what I have and hope it behaves itself. I was somewhat depressed to read somewhere a comment on the new 2018 model being a late midterm update as the L405 approaches then end of its life! Gee Whizz, its only just come out as far as I am concerned. Marketing men , LR are getting as bad as Apple 2006 S/C owned from new. Black, sand with black inserts. Shes a thirsty girl. ( now gone)

For what it’s worth, if you’ve got a good one/have sorted out the pre installed factory faults, I’d hang on to it.

I’ve found with a JLR products in the past that it’s a bit of a lottery, for example my last Defender was superb in so far as it didn’t leak, rattle, or have bits falling off it like so many do. So I didn’t want to change it for another last run Defender.

However a FF did the trick, and had numerous unresolved issues which led to me getting rid of it and ordering a 2018.

So my experience suggests if you’ve got a good ‘un, keep it

I’m somewhat in the same boat - 4 years old and 80k - my only issue is the lower tailgate needs manually closing and I don’t much care about that - but quite settled and can’t be bothered to change.

I guess I’m getting old.......

Talking of the current one being “a late midterm update as the L405 reaches the end of its life”, the problem I’ve found with my last two Land Rover favourites, the Freelander 2 and the Disco 4, is what happens each time our Kia castoff, Massimo Frasella, gets hold of the exterior design (DS/D5)

I’d consider waiting until you can order a last-of-the-line L405!

Crikey....so you’re considering one of these as well? It’s going to be a lot smaller than the FFRR

The shame about the 2018 model is, apart from the hybrid, the engines are the same. The V8 is basically carried over from the L322 - it's nearly 8 years old. LR would have given buyers a bigger reason to change if they'd upgraded the engines to the 6 cyclinder ingeniums.

Actually, I don't know what's happened to these engines? In April 2016 they were 'due late 2017'. Since then all has gone quiet.
