Labour cost to replace front and rear discs and pads

As above, need to replace front and rear discs and pads on the TD6, was wondering what I can expect to pay at a local garage?

And where wqould you guys buy a complete set from? Seen cheap sets on eBay, and pricing up known parts on ECP, whats everyones preference?

Euro car parts with one of there discounts. Might be 50% off at the moment.

Fit them your self it’s not hard with a few tools or I would imagine 2-3 hours labour as long as it all comes apart easy.

I bought front and rear discs and pads from them, Brembo originals all for under £300.

+1 on euro car parts - screwfix has discounts on tools right now as well for geting your bottle jack axel stands and caliper winder Smile

Possibly one of the easiest jobs I ever learnt was the brake pads Smile

Cheers guys, just priced it all up with ECP with their 'XMAS17' discount code and coming in at £245 for the lot

Is it worth changing the fluid while im doing it?

The fluid should be changed regularly, but if you do decide to change it, you need to be aware of the risk of snapping bleed nipples etc as well as the order of bleeding, especially where ABS is concerned.

If you're not confident, then I'd leave the fluid change to someone who is.

Don't forget the disc fittings kits and you will almost certainly need new brake wear sensors.

Thanks all guys

Ive got new brake wear sensor, will i need a new fitting kit too? ECP mailed me to aks if i wanted a brake fitting kit, basically clips pins etc??

And is there a specific brake fluid i should get? If so, how much will i need?

Was going to use a local garage because of the fluid change and bleeding etc, and been quoted £150 to change the lot, am guessing its a pretty good price?

Front and rear daily driver pads are about $50 USD. I don't see a reason to change the wear sensor unless you wore into it. About $30 for both. I believe they ship internationally or you could use your savings to pay for a round trip ticket from New York to London and I will hand deliver them.

doclees is spot on. the wear sensor wont need changing unless its worn into. Thumbs Up

150 is pretty cheap id let them do it as unless you have access to a ramp its time consuming to do each corner at a time...
Pagid was the brand i was recommended to use for discs.

Thanks guys

How much brake fluid will I need to have it completely changed? Should they flush it through? And are there any special things they should do when doing it? (Will be using a local garage I've used for years)

And I'm assuming Dot 4 is correct?

True, but bear in mind that the sensor is held in by a tiny spring and if you're not careful when removing it, you can break the sensor since they seem to get brittle over time.

It is a pretty easy job with the right tools. Where the sensor fits into the calliper is often a bit rusted over. I would spray it with some penetrating oil and leave it for a while before attempting to remove it, less chance of snapping it then.

Personally I never trust the sensors anyway as they only check one side, and if the other side seizes and wears quicker you wont know. I prefer to manually check to see how thick the pads are. The last time I changed my back brakes I left the sensor unconnected.

Something to note: The little grub screw that holds the disc in place on the hub often seizes and the allen screw hole rounds off, you may have to use a hole punch to get it off. I went to my local Landrover dealer to get a new screw and they told me they never bother using them as they are a PITA. (That was an official dealer too).

Finally, if you have an older model you may need to manually loosen the hand brake shoes to remove the rear discs. Due to the location of the adjuster you have to rotate the wheel to get it in the correct position. You cannot rotate one wheel if the opposite wheel is on the ground, so you will have to have both back wheels off the ground to do this job. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Will I remember should I attempt the brakes though Very Happy What do I put here then?
