Wiper arms into Service Mode?

Hi,

new owner of L322.

Just trying to clean the wiper blades (covered in oil following a lorry!).

Is there way way to get the wiper arms to stay vertical when the engine is switched off so that I can easily reach them both to clean? They always return to the bottom...

thanks
Atul

Not sure about the RR, but usually achievable by turning on the ignition & wipers then turning off the ignition just before the wipers get to the top of their sweep. Paul,

Tried that... it's a push button start stop and despite numerous timing attempts, (ala tipping point!) it's failed... engine goes off and wipers still return to the bottom Sad

Aagh - the perils of so little driver control with newer models !
With keyless start there is obviously no ignition off that the driver can influence. Paul,

Indeed Laughing

And let's not even start with the rear wiper... that conveniently sneaks into it's little home under the top of the rear window!!! Rolling with laughter

[Edit - this applies to the L405 - it was posted in the L405 section & I just noticed the original post says L322 Embarassed and Stan didn't notice Razz ]

For the fronts - on the menu in the middle of the instruments - something like vehicle setup - winter mode will leave the front wipers higher at rest.

For the rear, you need to partially open the tailgate mid-wipe and the wiper will stop in whichever position it's currently in

Not much of a problem?

I mist be a 6ft midget then... coz the wiper only comes up about 3 inches, so it's not possible to give the whole blade a clean (only the furthermost 1/3 is possible).

I've contemplated taking the whole blade off it's arm... but that feels like a sledgehammer...

haha... I've tried everything... the blade just doesn't come far enough away from the screen to clean... like I said... 2 thirds of it is pretty impossible...

I bet you haven’t tried removing them?

Its very easy to slide the slider on the top and simply remove the wiper blade then clean & refit sir Thumbs Up

Sometimes the easiest option is overlooked as a harder task Whistle

lol... I did think about removing it... but was convinced it was a sledgehammer to crack a nut! Laughing

Totally my mistake... I'm not a premiership footballer... so I tend to do my own (routine) maintenance! Rolling with laughter

My son's car (a Seat Ibiza), has a simple mode for leaving wipers vertical... you can then just pull the whole arm back and clean the blade in seconds... no fiddling about removing and refitting etc... oh well... I guess JLR just expect people to pay their service department to do this task for them...good ole JLR... they think of everything!

Whistle
