V12 L322 spotted today

At our local Xmas tree centre I spotted an 04 played L322 FFRR. Nothing special there, but walking past it I clocked some V12 on the wings and (I think) "480" or "480s" next to them. No Overfinch or similar badging that I noticed.

Stupidly, the search for the perfect Xmas tree diverted me from a closer look. Even more stupidly, I watched the people who had been in front of me in the tree sheathing queue put their tree in it and drive off! Should have bent their ear a bit, in retrospect.

Googling hasn't thrown up anything of any interest on this. Has anyone ever heard of V12 L322 conversions? Range Rover 4.2 SC

When LR was under BMW ownership I was always under the impression that the designers / engineers were given the BMW X5 as a shell and told go and design something around that. Lots of frustration and internal politics I suspect.

On the basis that BM have a few V12s then it's not out of the question...... 2006 4.2 SC

There was a V12 Range Rover, but a P38.

I understand BMW had a V12 in mind but then sold to Ford and V12's became a little unfashionable.

United Kingdom 2004 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Java Black

The Range Rover started with humble roots when it launched in 1970, but evolved to luxury status by the time the the 1990s rolled around. Looking to take advantage of the Range Rover's premium status, Wolfgang Reitzle, BMW's engineer chief, commissioned a version of the second-generation Range Rover with a V12 engine from the BMW 7-Series. Photos of the prototype were recently unearthed by Autocar.

Land Rover built two Range Rover prototypes with the V12 engines in 1999, but due to the motor's size, another six-inches or so had to be grafted onto the SUV's front end. The extra length was capped off with a unique front end treatment - which was partly to differentiate the V12 model from the V8-powered model - but limited the Range Rover's off-road ability.

Not sold on the idea of a six-figure SUV, BMW ultimately dropped the project. Shortly thereafter BMW sold Land Rover to Ford.

However, the story of the V12-powered Range Rover doesn't end there. After the sale Reitzle was hired by Ford to run the company's Premier Automotive Group, which included Land Rover. Reitzle, convinced that a $100,000 SUV could work, reportedly continued development on the car and even built another prototype with an Aston Martin-sourced V12 (Aston Martin was part of Ford's PAG at the time). But as history will show, Ford never picked up Reitzle's idea.

The all-new 2013 Range Rover might not be packing a V12, but it certainly carries on Reitzle's vision of a super high-end utility vehicle.

On this mornings little cycle ride into work from Paddington Station to Canary Wharf I passed a Black Full Fat with V12 badges on the wing, heading towards Tower Bridge along Lower Thames Street.

I couldn't see any other details but it looked pretty standard from the near side and rear. However I did catch the plate which was LJ04KSL.....

If it had't have been for the 8 Wheel tippers thundering along I would have got a picture.

I wonder if it's the same one and full of pine needles in the boot Very Happy
