Rear Parcel Shelf Load Space Cover Question

So I am new to the Full Fat, and am loving my new acquisition up to now. Apart from one thing......

The loadspace cover is some foldy hard naff looking beige thing that is next to useless unless you take it out to get your swag in. I collect a few boxes from a supplier each morning, and on the second day I took it out as I couldn't get anything in. It doesn't appear to fold away or stow in any meaningful or sensible manner.

On my [older] Range Rover Sport, we have a retractable canvas leathery type item that retracts the way a seat belt might and does the job perfectly. Like this:

A search here and a bit of Googling seems to suggest this item does not exist for the L322. Can that be right?

Perhaps one from another model such as the L405 fits? Or there is an aftermarket one out there?

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

L405 also has a hard shelf - its a feature of the FFRR

Not heard of any 'roller blind' conversions Whistle

Personally, I quite like it - and works very well for my dogs - they are small and get to sit on top of the shelf (with a 1/2 height dog guard)

Mine seems more like a three-piece one. I had a play with it and it kinda folds up awkwardly and still obstructs half the load space. Shocked

Surprising really if that's all that was ever available. Take a good size load space, access it by two doors; one being a drop down load assister. And then ruin the usability completely by putting a big foldy piece of furry hardboard in there to chop the usable space in half. Rolling with laughter

Whoever designed that needs a kick up the backside!

Odd that the aftermarket never addressed that. I can't see the demand just being me. If the L405 is the same item it would be worth someone bringing a product to market to address that. We have stuff made in China, I doubt it would be a terribly complex product to manufacture for a firm who makes similar already.

Anyone else here find the British Leyland style parcel shelf a pain? 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

I am sensing a bit of light-hearted joviality here against things RR Sport related. Like if its something the Sport has that the FF doesn't - well, then you simply don't need it. Mr. Green 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

All of my Range Rovers going right back to classic had a hard rear parcel shelf, they have recesses built into them to carry odd little items.

Given that fact though, I only ever put the odd little item on the parcel shelf in all of the years driving the Range Rover.

I’d rather have the hard Range Rover shelf to the sports rollable one any day as the soft ones tend to reverberate and make a bit of noise, which would be really loud in a Full Fat but probably not so notable in a sport - if you get what I mean Thumbs Up Rolling with laughter ______________________________

With the RRC and the P38A, the folded cover could be stored upright behind the rear seat. There are grooves for it to slide into. Not so in the L322 unfortunately. Ron B. VK2OTC

I agree with this entirely. Having had a TD5 Discovery before the L322, the folding shelf is far more restrictive than the retractable cover. If you want to put something large in the L322 boot you have to take the shelf out completely.

The traditional tartan blanket is what I have reverted to as the boot cover.

My folding cover is missing the rod (or maybe two lugs?) that fits through the backmost section to let it slide along in the grooves. It would be nice to learn whether this is just a rod and what it is made of.

Also my FFRR came with the glove box cover in the boot. Both its little hingy bits are broken off. I suppose replacement hinges are not available separately? I've chased a couple of breakers, but glove box covers seem to be the first things to go. Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

The plastic lugs on the folding parcel shelf are available separately - I purchased 2 for mine last year Wink You simply pull the old ones out and push the new ones in.

We have two in ours. I think it has the winter pack which has heated rear seats and a ski hatch, but there is a hard folding shelf and also a retractable unit that can also be fitted. We have a full dog cage so they are never used.

In two minds on this - I hated the roller blind type in my old Audi allroad but equally I don’t like the solid one in my FFRR. I never put anything on it and as mentioned it is very restrictive when you want to put something of any size in the boot. I seem to be removing it quite frequently these days and wonder how long before I break one of the securing pins. Be nice if there was an after market choice. "On first name terms with my local Dealer......now."

I rather agree with you Stuart-, whilst nicely made the design is a pain. You either have to remove it (it's quite heavy) or leave it alone. I'm surprised the L405 doesn't have something better.

The retractable one is a dog guard/luggage retainer though - it’s a net full of holes and mounts vertically......
