I just got Pads and Rotors done yesterday. Front and rear. Came out to the tune of $1100 US Dollars at a very reputable Land Rover shop. Dealer wanted about $1400. I think you're getting ripped off.

I’m sure they’re trying it on. What do I put here then?

You could try Halfords - they did a good job on mine last year, and if you do a lot of miles, their "brakes for life" deal could save you money compared with other independents. Andrew

If you’re going to replace the rear disks, make sure you put the EPB shoes into the unlatched position. The IIDTool can do this, or there’s a manual procedure that you can follow. Thumbs Up

Forgive me, I’m an IID novice. How do I do this? What do I put here then?

Might be worth checking that they do all need replacing, I'm all in favour of doing the whole job and doing it right but only if it needs doing now. What main dealers consider needs replacing is often a lot different to what the rest of the world thinks.

I’m with you all the way on that.

Funny thing is ... had my wheels changed last week.

The people doing that - who always look for extra work - didn’t mention my brakes at all.

Hmm ... What do I put here then?

This rings a bell.

I put a 28,000 mile, 9 month old D4 into the supplying main dealer late in 2015. I was told that the rear discs were shot and the pads were down to the metal! Shocked I was shocked that I hadn’t noticed that I could have let it get in such a state! Shocked They quoted a very high price to replace them.

Then I thought to ask why the brake pad warning sensor hadn’t reported it. They then said that “it hadn’t got down to the sensors yet”! I smelt a rat and told them to leave it.

When an independent checked them the following week, the discs were as good as you’d expect 9 month / 28,000 discs to be and the pads had 4mm to go. Nothing needed doing, although I got the pads changed as a precaution for a fraction of the amount the dealer wanted for discs and pads.

Dealers will usually mean need doing before the next service - assuming that you drive it like you stole it plus a margin for error.

£160 per hour + VAT there’s no need for a second opinion on that...... maybe worth paying to someone super experienced to analyse a tricky fault, but seems extreme for a routine job.

Sounds very true.

Took the wife's Ewok to the same dealer for its service in Nov 2016. Was told brakes would need doing within a few months.

When it went for its next service - Dec 2017 - they said brakes would need doing soon. What do I put here then?

id get a 2nd opinion , ive done customers car brakes and they gone in a few weeks later to a main stealer and they have advised brakes all round ! stealers tend to take the pi$$ as 70% of folk just take their word for it and have the work done , Any decent garage can advise on the condition of your brakes pal

That's my plan, Bembo449.

There's a great Indy near me - John Dennis near Aylesbury - and he's offered to do just that.

And if they need replacing, he'll do it for around half what the stealer wanted to charge. What do I put here then?

im sure the FF is reasonably heavy on its anchors with its rather large girth but it will be obvious if the rotors need any attention pal , let us know what those guys say Wink
