Corrosion on tail pipe trim

hi so been looking for ages for an external design rear bumper GENUINE. the fakes don't quite cut it for me...

Anyway after a year of hunting I got one for an absolute steal - £250 with all trims and pdc etc...

Only thing is the exhaust tips are heavily corroded - great idea making them out of cast aluminium Neutral

Anyway wire brush on a drill has got rid of the corrosion but they are fairly heavily pitted... how have others approached this?

My idea now is to use some silver manifold paint and just paint them to protect them... Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

Don’t know if you will get away with it as it will probably be linked to ViN, but I think LR have a recall for the corrosion on the finishers. I’m pretty sure they are available as a separate item. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Aluminium alloy on motorcycles could be cleaned with Solvol polish, that might work here too, perhaps preceded by some fine emery paper or steel wool. After that Q spray with clear lacquer? Only Range Rovers since 1988

I would give powder coating a try as well. Have them media blasted with glass or aluminium oxide and then two runs of powder coating primer, first one to fill in the small craters, then sand down and flush slightly, followed by a second coat in whatever colour you like.

If you are prepared to pay for the job to be done professionally, I would anticipate Badger Anodising in Birmingham could refurbish these as new. £80 to get 4 aluminium tread plates refurbished to as new/ proper job condition.

Have used them for years. Honest, excellent communication and completely professional.

Thumbs Up
