Hard brake pedal after sitting a few days

My 2010 Range Rover vogue has recently developed a hard brake pedal at first start after sitting a few days

The pedal goes back to normal the minute you start the car. Brakes are working perfectly otherwise.

Any ideas on the cause, just concerned that if it gets too hard after say, a week i won't be able to start the car.

Any Ideas?

Steve

I have the same problem. It’s only started to happen in the last few weeks or so. I presume it’s loss of vacuum pressure from somewhere in the system, but I haven’t been able to track it down. There are plastic pipes, so I’m presuming a small crack or something.

Coincidence or not, in recent months I’ve had to replace brake hoses to the rear calliper because they started to leak very suddenly. I can’t see why loss of fluid would cause the pedal to go hard, though. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

one possibility is a sticking piston. Gets solid in the caliper so on first application pedal feels hard i.e. more pressure needed to move piston.

Had that on my TD6, also had the opposite where pedal occasionally went down to easily which I think was the piston sticking "on" and not retracting.

Spent a Saturday striping all the calipers and cleaning up under the rubber seals on the pistons and lubing, seemed to fix that problem.

I also think I may have a seperate problem with the ABS pump/regulator as after ABS activation I get a hard pedal like a pressure control valve is sticking. Not sure if there is such a thing - needs more research......

Cheers,
