Expedition

Just theoretically
If I was going on a bit of a road trip expedition, no serious off roading, but a bit off the beaten track
Maybe across further Europe and maybe a bit beyond.

What would you take as a spare parts kit?

L322 TDV6, but feel free to chip in with newer car or universal recommendations

Best wishes
Glen
PS before anybody says it, take a spare L322! Laughing

ADAC

Most important thing would be :

ADAC membership - the German Automobile Association https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac-membership/ http://www.motorhomecraic.com/lexiconfiles/ADAC_policy_info.pdf

Best cover you can have and works in UK ( the AA come out!!) - and much cheaper than adding EU cover onto your UK policies.... 89€ for the Plus Cover.

Used them here in Romania, in Germany and in UK without any issues for both old discos and my BMW bike.... Series 2a LWB Hardtop - ex British Aerospace that was then used in an armed robbery! not by me!
2 door V8 1979 Range Rover
A slight Subaru blip..
110 County 200tdi
R reg 300 tdi Discovery Aviemore - gone to a local enthusiast to be resurrected in Transylvania
2003 TD5 Discovery2 - now sold
and the 2 wheeled Range Rover - BMW R 1150GSA

and finally the big lady of my dreams... 2012 Westminster - gives me a smile every morning

Regarding ADAC, as far as I can see from the web link one needs to have a German Bank account, not many Brits have one I would imagine.

Regarding an expedition into Europe, then I would suggest Winter Tyres and maybe a set of snow chains for all four wheels.

When I did a Europe trip in my TD5 Defender a few years ago, I just took a full service kit with all filters and belts, some oils and a decent set of tools and sockets, inc. tape, cable ties, electrical wire, etc. Didn't need any of it, but felt much more comfortable having it onboard.

With the L322, I'd make sure it was recently serviced and checked over by a specialist who knows your plans for the vehicle, and would pack an IID tool as well for offsite diagnostics, and maybe a workshop manual. At the end of the day, other than basic filters and the like, you can't really carry a huge range of spare parts as they get pretty bulky, and/or expensive. Unless you're going seriously off the beaten track, either a local garage will be able to source parts, or a UK supplier will easily be able to ship out if it's that hardtop source locally.

Obviously for Europe as well you need the required kit of hi-vi's, triangle, bulbs/fuses, breathalysers for France, etc.

Not needed - can be done with credit card over the phone....

CORRECTION - looking at some of the other forums, it looks like they have stopped taking new members from UK - probally pressure from AA! Will be popping into the Berlin shop to pay my renewal next month - will get an update then! Series 2a LWB Hardtop - ex British Aerospace that was then used in an armed robbery! not by me!

Think you'll find it hard finding spares for that. Whistle
