I'm looking for a little advice on diagnostics.

I'm am really fed up with taking our car to the dealers for fault finding only to be told that they could fix it... That'll be £104 + VAT please

So I have been considering purchasing some kit myself and saving money in the long run.

Autologic is most definitely out of my price range and I haven't found any second hand units.

My 06MY needs both IDS and T4 (T4 for only a couple of minor items) and I can get a full kit for just short of £5K but if I went for just IDS I can reduce that to under £2K for a refurbished system and second hand VCM.

The other option I have seen is the BBS Faultmate MSV2. This is an awful lot cheaper as it can be locked to a single VIN. It would be just under £1K for a full suite of diagnostics for 05-09MY FFRR and support.

So what I am after is a general consensus as to which system people would recommend and any reviews from users. I have had to replace a number of electronic modules recently and have been luck with not having to program them. Are there any limitations to the Faultmate with regards to module programming and the adding of keys etc?

I have the faultmate with D3 and RRS modules. You can do everything you want with it. I have programmed keys, installed new software and new functions and of course traced faults.
I haven't yet bought the FFRR software for it seeing as I don't yet know whether full functionality is available yet.

The Faultmate seems to be a very good unit and Colin is a good guy. Give him a shout - he does stop by here on occasion.

I don't yet have a clear idea of what can be done with the CCF edit functionality though. I would ideally like to have control over the TPMS, and to be able to enable nav-input-on-the-go
