VX12 OPK pre-pro L405 information

Hi Gang,

This July 2012 L405 is most likely a pre-prod one (the confirmation ones, with all the black and white vinyl sticker job we saw before the RR was launched in September that year)

VX12 OPK

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/us...-4/8367826

It is a July 2012 (L405 was introduced in September). Not MOT but taxed until 01/08/18
It is only 2 letters away from another pre-prod one we know about ' VX12 OJZ, being OPK.

Would any of you know it or have pics of it from back then, please?

Any info much appreciated.

Cheers

I’d steer well clear of anything early production, let alone pre production!

intersting... Any clue why it says this?

Could it be because it is not Taxed?

United Kingdom

Hello to everyone here,

This is my first post, but not my first FF, having previously owned an 2006 L322 5.0 SC, now gone for several years.

I am looking to rejoin the FF club and set out with the brief of finding a 2014 3.0TDV6 Vogue in SE Spec as a LR approved car at around £45,000

With regard to the car which is the subject of this post, I live less than a mile from the independent where this is for sale, and having bought 2 (non LR) cars from this dealer in the last 3 years and had a great experience each time, I decided to take a look although it was outside of our search criteria. The existing good relationship/loyalty to the dealer and previous good experience in my mind acts to lower the risk of buying independently.

The next part is predictable, as having called in, myself and my wife were impressed with the condition and after a test drive, fell in love with the SDV8 engine. There is a stack of receipts and MOT's showing a well cared for car, 1 previous owner (2 total), with some minor warranty work carried out but no evidence of build quality issues relating to its pre-production status.

Having previously owned a L322 I understand the ownership experience will have its hiccups so I am buying with my eyes wide open. Having explained our thinking to the dealer, he has structured a proposal with a 3 year warranty, on a PCP with a very attarctive guaranteed future value which means we are covered (under the limitations of the warranty) for major failures and can hand the car back in 3 years if the attitude to diesel/4x4 has worsened in the meantime and significantly affected the value. The icing on the cake is that I was given a good trade-in price on my current car, A 2014 BMW X6.

My question is, given the pre production status of this car but having checked the history, limited my exposure through a warranty, secured the future value of the car, and got, what I believe to be a good trade in and overall deal, why would this be a riskier proposition, and why specifically avoid a pre production car?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Kitboy.

The last full size picture looks like it’s showing VX12 on the front plate. And the wheels are different from the first to picture and the last one too. And the rear glass is different too, dark on one clear on the other. Looks like two different cars

To address Kitboys question, is that a pre-prod is still effectively testing the car or is it a case they are fully tested and signed off but produced for publicity purposes?

If the later, then conceivably the production runs will be identical to the pre prod so I to wonder what the risk is (provided the history / insurance etc is sorted and known) Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue

Hi All, I might need to publish this as a new thread but am interested in know from anyone with 2012/2013 early or pre-production L405 is that have the same starting chassis details. I have a fully loaded pre-production L405 that I purchased 6 years ago, then on number plate VX12 ODS. The chassis number starts SALGA2JE7DA0011** does this match with production cars as the Land Rover Service database does not bring up similar chassis numbers as existing? As a 2013 model year car, the log book is very strange, saying the car was first registered Aug 12, but then the V5 was not first issued until Jan 14, with the first owner being Land Rover Gaydon until then, a photograph of the car at the factory back then was also available without badges. As with these other pre-production cars it would be good to know what happened to them and where chassis numbers started. The car has virtually all the extras that were available from new, including the 1700w stereo and in the 70,000m it has done it has only a some very minor problems. Just at the stage where I might sell it but don't want to see it go.

Did a google search of VX12 images and did a reverse chassis number lookup, found these... Most are LHD and lots will not be registered in the UK, I am sure there will be plenty more to find, but it looks like not many of them made it onto the road in the UK...

I think I have answered my own question by doing this. A search of 2012 L405 cars for sale brings back chassis numbers starting DA1

SALGA****DA000001 Pre-production development cars maybe 200 worldwide
SALGA****DA001001 Pre-production press cars maybe 300 worldwide, a few got sold.
SALGA****DA100001 Production cars 50,000 a year there are 2012 cars at 10,000+

I am guessing at the numbers and not all chassis numbers have to have been used. Somewhere there will be records if anyone knows where...

Most of the plates I found were from playing with VX12 OD? letters and most of the images were of LHD cars with UK plates.
