painting rear exhaust 'box'

now i've confirmed to you all that i'm mad Very Happy

anyway, the large rear 'box' on my 4.4 v8 is clearly visible and areas of the black 'coating' have come away leaving shiny steel patches - quite simply looks unsightly

so i want to repaint the box - have looked at exhaust paints mostly used for bikes and they are ok to about 600 degrees

so - anybody done it and any recommendations?

thanks in anticipation

I dont think the rear box gets all that hot. So you should be OK with most paints I guess.

I have painted loads with any heat resistant mat or satin black paint. Even Barbeque Spray paint is effective as its totally heat resistant.

I think Satin Black heat resistant looks best. Lots of bits you can spray under there and it looks great after just a few minutes work but be careful not tape off anything you want to avoid Thumbs Up

I can't stand sight of mine, so thinking about dumping and replacing with custom twin pipes like the supercharger exhaust. Nothing larey, just oem style. Seen Midlands exhaust do set up on ebay for 260 so going to look local for similar set up.

This will lose the box completly and just have to shiney new pipes Thumbs Up

Not my cup of tea - I think the fact you cant see the pips on the RR is classy.

Satin black high temp paint has worked a treat on mine, just give it a quick once over every few months to keep it looking tidy Thumbs Up 2006 Mercedes CLS

Apolagies about asking q's on your thread but think you've got your answer. Paint it now and we are all as mad as each other!!

Did mine with matt black exhaust paint from my local autofactors.

Made a big difference to the rear as mine was also peeling/patchy. TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

That looks superb! Did you remove the box to paint or leave in situ. What pipes have you added and where from at what cost if you don't mind me asking!!

Think i may have just found my next task.
