Brake Pads........easy to replace....??

Just had the brake pad worn warning come up (not bad after 34,000 miles Shocked )

Before I start taking off wheels and checking, how easy are the pads to replace and what issues do I need to look out for?

I'm going to use genuine parts but don't want to pay the labour rate for a garage when I'm pretty handy mechanically myself.

Getting the retaining pins out can be a bit of a pain if they are corroded.
Some members report that they have had to cut them and then fit new pins.
Also some debate about using copper slip grease on alloy calipers, but most do .

Couple of things:
1) that middle bolt isn't mentioned in the Wiki but I presume it just unscrews?
2) has anyone used EBC pads for their 4.4 TDV8 car? I used to run a BMW 335i and found Red Stuff EBC pads very good, and low dust too. Anyone used Red Stuff, or Green Stuff for one of these cars?

From memory, the centre bolt is actually a pin used to keep tension on the anti-rattle spring, so no unscrewing to be done.

Can't comment on the EBC pads i'm afraid.

it is 1 and 3 pins in the picture that tend to get stuck. use some release fluid ( I use 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone) to aid in removal.
cob, I have used EBC discs and yelo pads and went back to brembo discs and Jurid pads. EBC discs warped and pads were noisy.

I had a Nissan Sylvia turbo back in the 90s and tried for 5 hours to force the pistons back into the caliper befoee i realised they twisted in !!!!!! 2015 4.4 AB

No, they just push straight back in.

The picture is a screen grab from the Workshop Manual.
It only covers L322 models, but you could get the L405 Manual by taking out a days subscription to Topix . (Approx £20)
