United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Buckingham Blue
Smoke....

So today when I got the RR TDV8 back home to N.Ireland I washed her this morning when I pulled her into the garage and turned her off I seen smoke coming from under the engine area, I got down on my hand and knees and seen blue smoke coming out from the back bottom area of the engine. I took a photo and circled to show from where. Any reasons?

smoke from there is most likely the FBH, that is where the exhaust from the heater exits the car Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Fuel Burning Heater.

When the ambient temp on startup is below (I think) 5 degrees a separate diesel heater fires up to assist the engine to warm up quicker. Previous

From the Disco forum:

Automatic Operation - Smoke From Front of Vehicle

Outside air temp below 6 degrees C? Engine temp less than 75 degrees C? Low fuel warning light NOT on?

Then don't worry, its the Webasto Fuel Burning heater starting up.

The function of the heater is to assist the very efficient TDV6 to warm up on cold starts, by burning diesel fuel to directly heat the coolant in the engine. One problem with modern diesels is that they are so efficient that they don't produce enough heat to warm the coolant enough to ensure efficient running.

When it starts (after about 1 minute from initial engine start) it will emit some smoke and steam from the front of the front left wheel arch. As the FBH reaches max power, it will burn cleanly with no smoke. You should not see smoke for more than a minute or so. You should see the smoke emitting from a small vertical exhaust located forward of the left-side front wheel.

Cheers, Mark

By the way someone here might be able to help. I realised on the road home yesterday that I didn’t get a remote fob with my car to turn off aux heater - pre heat car. Do I need to visit a Land Rover dealership and purchase a new fob then? Thanks 2009 Land Rover Rang Rover Vogue TDV8 - Buckingham Blue with Ivory Leather - 20” Alloys with Pirelli’s

Search on here. You can pick one up on eBay it will need programming to the car but that is a matter of pulling the fuse on the heater module and pressing some buttons Thumbs Up

Think the model of remote you need is the T91. Thumbs Up but worth a double check There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Last question about the FBH, because of the unknown lol does the FBH ever need any service work whilst the car is in for its normal annual service work? 2009 Land Rover Rang Rover Vogue TDV8 - Buckingham Blue with Ivory Leather - 20” Alloys with Pirelli’s

You best check you have the remote signal receiver in the boot before you buy the fob. I had a 2007 VSE that had a very high spec but no receiver. I bought one second hand and an aerial because although the power and system wires were preinstalled i couldn't find the antenna one. 2015 4.4 AB

^that is true, it would be unusual not to have one though!

Nothing to service on the FBH, honest guv.... might need “fixing” occasionally, depends on use. They don’t like not being used. Usually all the problems start to post on here from about November time as they don’t come on in the summer. They should fire up as part of the engine heating cycle in the winter so they get used. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
