How do I get rid of polish swirls in paint left by dealer?

Collected my new 66 plate SDV8 AB today from the main dealer - I'm pleased with the car but it looks like they've polished it with some sort of machine leaving swirls in the paintwork, which I can see in bright sunlight - How do I get them taken out?

I've attached a photo to show the car and colour (Ruffina Red, Ivory Letaher, Shadow Walnut) although you can't really see the swirls in the pic.

Any advice on swirl removal would be much appreciated.

If I was you, I would take it to a reputable detailer who will remove the swirls and get your car to the condition it should be from the factory.

I would also challenge the Dealership, show them the swirl marks and get them to cover the cost as this is not acceptable on a brand new car.

Keep us informed how you go.

Thanks Lyonhead - Although Sorry, I think I mislead you........ The car's new to me but 18 months old and 12k miles on the clock - However, I'm certain they caused the swirls as their was dust from the polish after buffing still visible on the car.

Ahhhhhh, sorry I obviously thought wrongly Whistle

But, yes a reputable detailer will get the swirls out no problem at all.

Have a search on tinterweb for any in your area and you could always then go and have a look at their work and read all the reviews off other people. You never know, their might be someone on the forum here that might have used one near where you live. It will be the best money you spend as if you are anything like me, those swirls after you’ve seen them will stand out everytime. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Thanks Lyonhead - You're right, likewise, in the sun those swirls are the only thing my eyes will see!

A DA polisher and autoglym super resin polish will sort it as long as you set aside a full day to do it. Just takes lots of time and patience. Failing that any reputable detailer will be able flat and polish it properly.

Car looks lovely by the way.

Thanks Paul - Do you think a specialist detailer would be the best option?

Possibly, especially if you wanted it to look perfect. I know I would if I owned that car!

I did mine myself and it took hours and hours and still isn't 100% as some deep marks can't be removed with a DA and require a rotary polisher combined with a cutting compound. This is where it gets dodgey as with a DA and resin polish you can't really do any harm but with cutting compound and a rotary you can easily burn through the paint if you're not careful.

Complain to stealer - whether it gets you anywhere is another point.

Then take it to a good detailer.

Ceramic coat if you can too. What do I put here then?

I'm with GAC23 on this one. I would not accept swirls on a car costing this sort of money, but I suppose it depends on the dealership's willingness to be reasonable.
A reputable professional detailer will need the car for a couple of days, and proper paint correction will cost you at least £500, more if you have a ceramic coat applied. However, the car will look amazing and it'll set you up nicely as we move in to Spring / Summer (famous last words!).

Consumer rights act states that goods should be of satisfactory quality. They are not, explain this to the dealer. They have to rectify to issue without causing you significant inconvenience. Secondly you could request a payment and then address the issue yourself. Most deals opt for this because it ends their involvement the issue.

Thanks guys, really appreciate your advice - I'm going to have to do something, it's a real mess. Also there seems to be some sort of film on the car which is creating a dust when wiped or wet..... It's obviously something they've applied before using the "swirl machine"

However, that's only half the story...... You're not going to believe this - At time of deposit paid, I showed the salesman that there was a chunk missing out of the sidewall of the front N/S tyre, I told him I wanted this replacing and ideally the other side also, to keep the rubber even. So when I get there, I notice they've only changed the damaged tyre, despite the salesman telling me prior to arrival, that "they had been sorted"

Th tread on the opposite side wasn't too bad, so I let it go and accepted they hadn't done what was agreed.

So then I get home and check the spare (which I also checked at time of deposit paid - It was BRAND NEW)....... Guess what, they didn't replace the damaged tyre at all, they simply swopped it with the brand new spare in the boot - Absolute Crooks!!
