Engine oil

Hi Guy's
I'm new on this forum
Had engine oil changed last night
Engine done 170.000
4.4 petrol

Put 10w40 ,it's wrong decision ?

Scotland 2017 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Corris Grey

The recommended grade seems to be 5w40, there will also be specifications to be met, you could call at John Clark LR and ask what they recommend. Maybe in the summer you'd get away with a decent quality 10W40. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Personally, I'd sort it straight away. However, I'm no oil expert and it might well be fine.

Is £40 worth of new oil worth damaging your engine for? __

Can you just explain to me how is 10w40 can damage engine?
Just because is to thick?
But even in manual says you can use 10w

It will be fine unless it gets very cold up there in Aberdeen - the 5w is thinner so flows better when cold 4.4 AdBlu Tractor

That actuality was my plan trying use 10w on summer time
And change again for( autumn, winter )5w40
But I think lifters on cold start very noisy
