Quick question - RSE touch screen remote (MY10-12)

I've got a Vogue SE with factory fit RSE, acquired a week ago.
My touchscreen remote is on the blink - it never comes on but the left and right screen select lights just flash.

I'm trying to work out if this is down to the remote or the car.
Quick question for anyone else with this system - if you have the remote out of the car, does the screen come on?

My remote ‘appears’ on when in its cradle but won’t stay on once lifted out. I can’t even see how to change the battery. It’s no bother as no one sits in the back anyway.

You can get the batteries on eBay for about a tenner.
Sounds like it’s not the battery then and mine is jiggered.

Mine comes on when you take it out the cradle I think...
