3.6 TDV8 Map

Hi All,

There is plenty of threads on this but can't seem to come up with good answer, so thought id start a new one and see what you knowledgeable bunch have to say on this matter! thanks in advance for your input.

My Fatty is MY10 3.6 TDV8, been thinking of getting it mapped for a while now as I would like more power and the added fuel efficiency that comes with It. From what I have read there any many pros and cons to getting this done.

My main concerns are is having the map done unnecessary stress on the turbos?
Will it effect the gearbox ?
I also read that 3.6 was already at the maximum level of torque from factory so adding more torque is surely bad? anyone that can shed light on this subject would be appreciated !

If a map is a viable option can anyone recommend any good Land Rover approved company? don't want any old rubbish !

Thanks again for any replies!

My 3.6 was remapped and it flew. Felt much more responsive than my 4.4. ( haven't got around to remapping yet)

I had two new turbos because one snapped its impeller shaft ( before mapping ) and i only did 25k kilometres after remapping.

Gearbox torque was something I hadn't considered until someone on here mentioned the 4.4 tdv8 is at max torque as standard. I looked up the 3.6s 6hp box and saw mine was 50-80 nms of torque over recommended limit after mapping. My thinking now is we are driving RRs and not competition cars. I red line mine very rarely, i never tow and believe ( maybe stupidly) that ZF built their gearboxs with some margin of safety re max torque.

I would recommend anyone with a 3.6 to get a map and not for speed but for drivebility. I had a mid level map ( of 3 ) on mine and was very impressed.

Just my humble ( if correct) opinion and no warranty is implied or given. Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

Lots of people mapped their 3.6’s with no problems - I sold mine at about 130k miles

Mine was from BAS - one of the more reputable providers and easy as I was able to DIY at home rather than travel Thumbs Up it was also a DIY job to remove again when I sold the car.

ZF 6 speed box is good for 740 NM of torque. 3.6 Fatty produces 640Nm torque as standard.
Get a good map done and don't go past the 740Nm of torque. As mentioned, good tuners like BAS know this.
Get Egr's mapped out too. They are the biggest problem that lead to turbo issues. 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Slightly off topic...

But it's possible to blank the egrs and 're program to trick the computer's they are there and functioning? Remember:- amateurs built the ark

Yeah been thinking of doing the BAS re-map which can be done at home via pc, this can also be turned on and off from home so its a high possibility for me.

Just trying to understand the issues it can bring but as everyone says a well maintained car with regular oil and filter changes you should be ok!

@nearlee to answer your question on the EGR I believe that you simply blank them off with blanking plates and get them mapped out. Pretty simple procedure I think.

Hi Grofus, i was under the impression that 3.6 tdv8s had the zf 6hp which is rated up to 640mn. 2015 4.4 AB

ZF website says 6hp26 is rated to 600Nm. 6hp32 rated to 750Nm. Can't see JLR would fit an engine capable of 640 NM to a box capable of 600Nm. I'm sure I read that Fatty 6 speed was up to 740Nm so assumed it was uprated to 6hp32.
BAS map takes the engine to 740Nm, and again, I can't see them doing anything that compromised the gearbox.
Some go past that threshold, like the bluefin one which claims 190Nm increase. Shocked
I guess folk need to tread carefully when considering where and who does any re-map 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

Thanks Stan,

from this table it shows the 3.6 TDV8 is 640nm, is this a maximum torque setting or is this what they achieve from factory ?

do you know the maximum torque setting for these cars?

Sorry for my ignorance, its my first fatty! still learning the ropes.

Thanks Lewis

640Nm is the engines max torque. The table doesn't show what gearbox will take so it's still a mystery!
The gearbox is actually the 6hp26x , which is the 4 wheel drive variant. I'm sure it's uprated cover the standard 26.
Can't find what it is though Exclamation 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal
