A word of caution.

If tuning box's/chips or whatever you like to call them are fitted and you don't let your insurance company know, they will not pay out in the event of an accident.

Apparently the insurance companies can now plug in a computer to your vehicles ECU and tell from the readings if any aftermarket device is or has ever been fitted.

I have a 2005 diesel and the computer states I'm getting under 19mpg. Are the on board counters accurate ?

not always mate. however depending on how you drive that sort of MPG would be achievable in a TD6. I drive pretty steady and average about 22-23mpg. If I were to give it some beans I am sure that would drop below 20. FFRR TD6 HSE

38mpg is exceptional.
I'm getting 24ish driving steady. Hoping to get autologoc remap next weekend which might give me an extra 2mpg FFRR TD6 HSE

I do a general mix of driving and get something in the region of 25 mpg. Out of curiosity I decided to do a test on my TD6 doing a decent run this weekend. Brimmed my tank and drove from north to south Wales and back. Refilled tank on completion. Drive consisted of town, open road, duel carriageway, motorway etc. And included getting stuck in crawling traffic on a couple of occasions. I wasn't booting the car but I wasn't crawling either. Journey down I averaged 50 mph, journey back about 45 (traffic jams etc). I completed 321 miles and used just under 50 litres. I calculated aprox 29.5 mpg. The computer gave 31 mpg.

I am considering getting a remap to assist fuel consumption as I am pretty happy with power. Any thoughts anyone.? Td6 SE

On motorways I can get upto about 40mpg

Without any box fitted if I drive carefully averaging 55-70 mph along motorways I can get around 40mpg according to the ecu. Could not go faster due to the road widening on the M1 and M25. I think my car might have been remapped in the past.

Just drove from Milton Keynes to Greenwich including stopping for lunch and hitting 45 minutes of solid traffic at the QE2 bridge and averaged 39.6 mpg which did surprise me somewhat. Just had to make sure I was not heavy footed. Current Drive - 2005 Model Vogue Td6 Black (Touchscreen)

The fuel computer runs off your "B" trip. To get an accurate reading for a single journey (pre-2010), reset this to ZERO. Post 2010 have a "this trip" setting too which can be quite scary!

I have 2 settings cons1 and cons2. I have left the cons2 since I acquired the car and I have averaged 24.6mpg over aprox 2,500 miles. I use the cons1 for individual journeys to assess my consumption in different driving conditions. Are you saying one setting is more accurate than the other? Td6 SE
