And as mentioned earlier in the thread the 255/55 have the tallest sidewall which not only helps smooth out pot holes, it should help keep the kerbing fairy at bay.

Agreed re speedo readings - my last L322 was out by 3mph at 100 = 3%.

The only other thing to be aware of is that larger diameter tyres will increase your gearing, the result is more MPG on motorways etc, but it will also reduce your acceleration and result in more gear changes / hunting for gears - which will increase fuel consumption on some types of roads and when towing. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Just put 255/55/20 On my 4.4 tdv8 and it doesn't make any difference to the gearbox but on my 3.6 with the same size tyres , it would hold onto a lower gear at low speeds ( 60kph) but it was hardly noticeable. 2015 4.4 AB

not finding the 255s protect the rim in any way. hence looking at 265 or 275s

Gotta like those multi spikes esp in gunmetal, for comparison these have 255/50

Paul and Mark and Me lined up here for 'arch fill' scrutiny!

Paul I lowered yours into access mode, hope you don't mind!

Not much in it but the 275s are a tiny bit lower . The website Rob posted says there's a 7.5mm difference in the diameter:

255/50r20 diam=763mm original
275/45r20 diam=755.5mm

I think the side view is not the only factor though. The 275s will probably make up for it with a wider stance whoh would be visible from most other viewing angles.

Paul do you fancy posting up some different angles? Thumbs Up
. Cheers, Greg

You could also lower the suspension settings permanently with IID tool if you wanted a smaller gap between tyre and wheel arch.

Think Stan's lowered his by about 15mm although he has 21" wheels on his. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Greg - sure, I have the RR with me in Poole this weekend, will take some photos with different angles in the morning!

This thread has definitely made me more closely admire the tyres on other FFRR's now. The TUC march in London today meant my normal 45min journey across took 2 hours 10 mins, so plenty of time and opportunities for tyre spotting Smile.

Everything I saw this morning was running standard 255/50r20 tyres, which from a side view I didn't think looked overly different to my 275/45r20's.

255/ 55 sidewall is taller than standard 255/ 50 by. 12.75 mm and do better protect the rims. Also all terrain tyres have a deeper tread, normally 10mm. That's what I have fitted and no kerbing worries for me. Thumbs Up 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

that small gap under the blue line on Paul's 275s is 3.75mm
Kind weird such a small amount would be even noticeable but my blue guidelines show it up.

Rob - Thumbs Up If that gnat 3.75mm bothers that's a good idea to close the gap a little.

Grofus I haven't looked at 255/55 vs 255/50 yet. Post up a side view of yours? I'm well used to it but there's a certain pressure of London traffic / parallel parking you want/need to get into spaces asap and the weight of the car even it idle rolling speed the can push the rim into the kerb as soon as the tyres touch the stone. So I really want the width over sidewall height but I'll check out the 55 vs 50.

Paul cheers that would be great.

Anyone else out there running the Uniroyals Paul has? They look very good to me.
. Cheers, Greg

If you are that worried why not just go 285/50/20 - i’ve got a set of those in Cooper AT3 for the shooting season as well as the 22” Turbines on 275/40/22. You have then got both width and tyre wall height 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17
