Cheaper alternative to Ctek?

Hi.

I have Ctek 5.0 keeping the 322 battery well maintained due to lack of use. Now the RRC project is complete I thought I best get one for that too. The cheapest on the bay are still £60.00 or more!!.

Does anyone use an alternative (read 'cheaper') that they can recommend - likely mine will be used year round and i want one I can connect and forget for prolonged periods like the Ctek.

The Lidl ones are the usual recommendation (when they’re available).

The Lidl one I bought isn't bad, but no CTEK - it won't revive a fully dead battery and if the power is lost, it doesn't't switch itself back on - it is good for the money though Thumbs Up

What about a cheaper CTEK?

This one says it’s good to maintain a car battery, but not charge from dead, but you have your other CTEK for that......

Can't recommend the LiDL one for long term use. Bought two primarily due to the motorcycle mode which was, allegedly, safe for smaller batteries. Not sure about that. They killed the two batteries on my Norton Commander over the 2016/17 winter and finished off the one on my generator, which admittedly was well past its best. Little bit of experimentation shows tendency to get mixed up on start charge voltage indication and I'm not completely sure I trust the finish voltage readings.

Relegated the pair to use in old style "put it on for a bit when I think about it" mode. Seem to work fine for that and well out of the way screwed to the wall. Might well be fine left permanently connected on a big car battery tho'.

My main charger is an old Woolworths one, circra 1960's, up gunned to 10 A + DC output with all new mil spec innards (don't ask) in mid 1970's. A bit aggressive for maintaining purposes!
