dr colorchip - group buy?

just a bit of a discussion point?

used their 'touch up' paint system on my grand cherokee - the best by far

even recommended by detailing world who did a 'group buy' when i bought mine

looked on their site but could not find Tonga Green - their code? - 904/HFY

emailed them and they in fact do this colour (or in their case color Smile )

i'm going to order but wonder if forum members might be interested in a group buy for their FFRR's?

if you let me know the colour you require i'll contact them to confirm availability

BTW - i have no commercial connection with this company Very Happy and will pay the same price as everyone else!

I've used these guys before and they are very helpful.

Unfortunately they sent over some paint for my Phoenix Yellow M3 but the match was way off. The service was good but the mismatch in paint made it impossible to use.

Having said this PY must be one of the hardest standard paint colours to match (even if you have the car there) so I'd use them again for Zermatt Silver Thumbs Up

i've asked them how many orders they need to effect a group buy and what the prices would be?

the Road Rash kit is the one to get (largest) - approx £36.87

BUT

the quoted carriage rates are very high to UK - approx £24.49 Sad

i'm not sure why the carriage costs are so high as its a small box weighing very little???

are there any forum members from USA?

if so we could buy the kits and have them shipped within the USA for a few dollars and this kind forum member could ship them to us in one 'bulk' delivery? (we would pay for post etc and say a free kit as a thank you)

We have to get equipment from the states for work projects and it's always a flog with their customs (try £4k for 2 Plasma/LCD Brackets to Brussels and this was only to airport!! although the brackets were BIG).

We have even tried to arrange things from here and have come to the conclusion that it's easier to bite the bullet.

My father sends over presents for the grandchildren and his shipping is always relatively extortionate (I have told him so many times to order off the Web from a UK supplier (as I do for him in the USA) then it's a national/local delivery) - Unfortunately we cannot do this in this case.

I'm not sure how much would be saved by getting a private shipment form a US member but worth asking.

hi

i've just weighed and measured my existing kit as dispatched

WEIGHT 350g

SIZE 165 x 105 x 80mm

so very small/light

just compared it with bulk spools of fishing line i've ordered from the USA which is both heavier/larger

shipping has been quite cheap

last year a friend went golfing to the USA and i had goods delivered to his hotel which he brought back - cost me nothing - as he's a car 'nut' i'll see if he's going this year?

i'll shop around

i'm told UK import duty limits from non EU countries have risen from the old £18 to over £100?

in the days of the 'old limits' i guess less than 50% of my deliveries have attracted duty

i love a challenge - i'll find a way Laughing

It's nowt to do with the size of the package - it's because it is a hazardous substance (Cl 3.2) you are sending through the system and they have to use a special plane/boat/train with no passengers on it in both USA and UK to transport it.
BTW if what you gave your friend was something flammable to carry on the plane he could have been sent to prison in the USA. Friend of mine tried to get a sailboat's liferaft and flares in the back his Granada Estate on the ferry from the UK to Sweden. The back of the car was sitting so low that crew loading the ferry asked him to open the back of the car so they could see what he had in there and when they found the liferaft and flares he had to rebook the car onto a freight only ferry at hugely more cost and got there 3 days after the crew, he was very lucky not to have been prosecuted by the ferry company as most airline and ferry companies have very onerous terms in their ticketing conditions regarding carrying hazardous materials in your baggage in compliance with international regulations covering the carriage of dangerous goods on passenger carrying craft 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Tim

with respect you are getting a tad over excited

nothing in the paints is an 'exception' - no more flammable than say the gas in a cig lighter/hair spray in fact its in the same category as nail varnish (cellulose based paint) and about the same size as a bottle of nail varnish!

its not flares or lifeboat!

as for special boats/planes etc etc - you read too much Tom Clancy Laughing - the regs you talk about are for large quantities - not 2oz bottles

also it is NOT an aerosol

the largest bottle is 2oz!

they can legally be carried as hand luggage - scanners would not even pick them up - if questioned you say what they are

quadratec had this problem sending gas struts by air - soon sorted
