3.6 tdv8 car died, turbos?... confirmed engine is dead.

Was towing (approx 1.8 tonne load) and went to overtake yesterday put my foot down and it sounded like something broke and a dull grinding/clunking noise was apparent, it wasn't high pitched. First thought was gearbox, but then it was apparent that there was no power, engine warning message came on. Managed to cost off the A34 thankfully, and then when slower the engine stalled/died. Won't start now, turns over, fires, runs for about 2 seconds then dies.

Showed air mass meter errors (P010C and P010F), intercooler temp sensor signal fault (P007F) AA chap cleared these and they haven't returned but the car still won't run.

This sound like a double turbo issue? And if that what would have caused it (oil pump?).

I'm waiting for Woody from the Disco3 forum to come and collect it and try and fix it, but any idea what could cause the above. Current cars:

Video of it happening. You'll need to turn your volume up.

Happens as I pull out... so about 30-35s in.

At least the FFRR knew there was a junction coming up! Thumbs Up .

Sadly sound expensive, if you need 3.6 tdv8 engine parts I have 3 units here for rebuild, at least your in good hands with Woody he knows what he is doing unlike the Muppets I used hence why I have a selection of previously rebuilt engines... Big Cry

Love it if it was. But sadly all new in the last year and never had the car not being able to be started when a hose has split. Current cars:

Not looking good this.

One turbo is definitely gone, 2ltrs of oil was appently in the bottom hose along with most of the turbo, with some metal in the top hose. More concerning though is that engine still won't start at the moment. Woody's not sure if the turbo going has taken that half of the engine with it. It turns over fine it would seem without any undue noise.

Slightly stuck of what to do next with it. A recon engine and turbos are probably not really economically viable for a 58reg car with 120k on the clock as this would be the best part of £10k at least wouldn't it?

Any ideas/thoughts greatly appreciated. Current cars:

Well.. it's dead and will be sold for breaking.

Is it not worth considering trying to find a second hand engine?

Don't think so.

Car value is £9-10k.

Scrap engine approx £4k
2x new turbos £2k
Intercooler £300
All +fitting... so maybe £1500
There will be probably more little bits needed as well.

Scrap value is £3k.

From my basic calculations it just doesn't add up. Current cars:

Didn't realise a 3.6 out of a breaker went for so much money.

I presumed you would have been able to get an engine with turbos etc for less than 4k.

Was it the EGR valves which caused the turbos to disintegrate?

Keith, tough choice... spend to keep it on the road with no extra value or let it go and cut your losses.

There are a lot of sellers on ebay offering a recon service, no matter what the condition of your engine, but please be aware they have terrible reviews (I researched plenty of them).

I've just done an engine change on mine and I reckon it cost me around £8k, and that was doing the install myself.

I did need 3 injectors, 2 turbos, 1 EGR, inlet manifold, intercooler, plus all the hoses, filters etc. etc.

Here's my write up: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic47199.html

If you do decide to go down the route of fixing, feel free to get in touch as it's all pretty fresh in my head.
