Advice on sticking dashcam mount to windscreen

I've now tried mounting my dashcam to the windscreen 3 times with the sticky pads supplied and each time it's fine for about a week and then just falls off Sad

Bit fed up with it now so am thinking maybe I can bond it to the screen with some kind of permanent adhesive as the cam detaches from the mount anyway for when I need to remove it.

Anyone else had similar problem? Thoughts on best thing to use?

Wondered about black adhesive silicon or maybe araldyte or similar.

Cheers

Pop into your local Autoglass etc, and see what they would recommend.

I had an interior mirror on my Wrangler that came off and went into ask and the boys did it for me there and then with no charge. Whatever they did, it stayed on the screen afterwards. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

Might also be an idea to heat the glass up to avoid any condensation issues in this cold weather. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Well, 4 months in and the Censored ing thing has fallen off again........ Big Cry Big Cry

I really thought I had it sorted this time but evidently not. I could stick it again and accept it may only last a few months but looking at it a bit more today I think the problem is, not that the dashcam is too heavy for the adhesive, but that the fact there is a power cable connected to the GPS "foot" (which is what sticks to the windscreen) and another connected to the dashcam itself which comes from the rear cam and I think the combination of these 2 putting constant downward pressure on the dashcam is proving too much for the sticky bits.

I'm now looking at possibly fabricating a metal bracket so there is a larger surface area to stick to, or a bracket mechanically fixxed to something solid behind the rearview mirror. Just on that, does anyone know if its easy to remove the plastic cover behind the mirror, and whether there is then something I can attach a bracket too.

Thoughts...... 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Rob is the cable pulling it too tightly away from the screen?

All adhesives get soft in this warmer weather, maybe the cable is tugging it a bit which when it's soft maybe enough to pull it off?

Mine popped off the other day but it's been stuck there for a year. Pressed it back and all good since.

+1 for the 3M pads/tape. Make sure it's genuine not 99p off ebay, (usually a good sign of a counterfeit).

. Cheers, Greg

The cables aren't really "pulling" at the dashcam and are mainly tucked into the headlining. I've tried genuine 3m pads, adhesives etc and they all work to varying degrees.

I now just want a permanent solution so I don't have to wonder every time I get in the car whether the dashcam has fallen off again.

Hence why I'm looking at a possible mechanically fixed option, maybe to some part of the rear view mirror assembly. Just need to work out how to get the plastic cover trim off without (a) breaking any fixing lugs or (b) cracking the windscreen Shocked 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Have you tried a small suction cup as supplied by many dash Cams? Ours is fitted in our i3 (not got around to the RRFF yet) and it’s been in there since last September without dropping off, just make sure the screen area is clean and slightly dampen the cup before fitting. David

Please let me know if my comments upset you, I may wish to upset you again.

Before fitting any device, suction cups or sticky pads I would suggest cleaning the screen area with methylated spirits.
Works for me, never had anything fall off. Thumbs Up

I would use a moistened clay bar to remove all contaminants, polish dry, then stick. You might be surprised by the amount of filth that’s actually on an apparently clean piece of glass.
