United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Bonatti Grey

I do all of my own maintenance, I have a decent toolkit I was kind of hoping for encouragement etc. I appreciate the truthful comments but a little positivity wouldn't go amiss.

I had a 4.2 LSE classic quite a while ago, i converted it to LPG under the watchful eye of RPI engineering and then went on to develop an auto advance system when it was running on LPG (40 deg BTDC) so I really dont mind getting my hands dirty.

On the electronics is there any software out the like Vag Com but for rangies?

A diagnostic tool can be found on the link below. They're great things to have and work very well.

Other diagnostic tools are available, but the above is incredible value for what it is.

Maintenance is reasonably easy for wear and tear items such as fluids, brakes and suspension. Look in the WIKI for some great 'how-to' threads for most things. Si. <This is my name.

Ireland 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Zermatt Silver

Ignore the tongue in cheek comments.
10k budget will get you a nice 3.6TDV8 with around 80-100k miles on it. Brilliant tow cars. Budget another £250-300 for a remap with EGR's deleted out and you resolve the possible turbo failure issue. They are no more unreliable than any other make. Just more complicated but with the knowledge on here you'll be well covered.
The reliability issues were with the earlier cars that were, ironically, using BMW parts and systems and the TD6 and it's chocolate gearbox.
I've had can 07 TDV8 for 3 years and it's only needed tyres and a battery and I regularly tow 2 tons plus.
Read the buyers guide on here and take your time to find the right one. Best car I've owned 2007 Vogue TDV8 in Zermatt Silver with Charcoal

I'll be around for sure, my skill sets are electrics, computers and laser cutting. I have a small laser cutter and have made a few things for caravans, Touaregs and lighting, if anybody needs anything done, a fag packet sketch will suffice.

Thank you everyone for your help so far, I'm sure more will be needed.

Take an average of the comments above and you are probably in the ball park.

you should be able to get a decent 3.6 for that sort of money, as always with these things buy on history and condition rather than milage. Ive had a 3.6 and a 4.4 and been an owner for 6 years now. Ive never had anything make the car stop moving!

Avoid the TD6 as your budget will get a decent 3.6. As soon as you get it change the top intercooler hoses, 5 mins and less than £100 from the MD parts dept. there are horror stories out there of turbos failing etc but on the whole the engine is pretty robust there are 3.6's out there with good milage on them. The Grearbox is also a good unit and failures are rare.

That brings you to the suspension and brakes, these are as prone to failure as anything on any other car, the rear Callipers are made by TRW and recon ones are cheap and easy to come by, the fonts are Brembo and last well but are expensive if anything goes wrong. The suspension being air, is more complicated than your average spring setup, but apart from occasional pump and airbag failures is also fairly robust, in 6 yeas I only had one problem with mine which was a holed airbag on my 4.4.

Read the buyers guide, know what to look for and don't buy the first one you drive. The drive is not really like anything else. Its high and airy, and it feels like a big car, which it is, but is easy to get used to. It really is a Swiss army knife of cars. not much phases it. floods, mud, caravans (mines up near 2000kg), motorways, B roads (though a Porsche is better), Ikea trips, snow, continent blasts, and boulevard cruising are all easily done. The only thing it doesn't do out of the box is seat 7, but if you need 7 seats then you can get a boot bench.

Get one, put a few quid away each month for the inevitable bill, and you will be fine. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Not that I could afford any thing as new as you are looking at but it might be worth mentioning that being behind the steering wheel of a range rover is just a very nice place to be, try one out and see Very Happy

Well I've done quite a bit of looking and I really appreciate ALL of the replies Ive received on here. I think I've found the model Im going to aim at even though it will stretch my budget and then some. Ive looked at and driven a 2011 Vogue TDV8, ithe one drove had a screen price of £18995 but with a bit of talking I got that down considerably. I couldnt quite push him far enough on my partex Touareg but I may sell that private anyway. It had got 63000 on the clock, was absolutely mint in every respect with a full main dealer history. It did drive well, I thought Touareg was a mover but jeez this thing really went. Very comfortable, very quiet and one of the nicest cathedrals Ive been in Laughing

Im unsure whether to go tomorrow and put a deposit on it while I get my Touareg sold or maybe look for one with more miles and less money. I did like the digital dash, it looked pretty cool.

Sounds promising, and good value too at or below that price.
Just one thing to add; a local experienced indy garage is really handy for these cars. I'd avoid main dealers personally ("windscreen wiper not working Sir? That'll be a brand new engine please!"), but if you can find an indy who knows his Range Rover onions, as it were, he's worth his weight in gold.

We have a few specialists round here, my last Range Rover (4.2 LSE) I bought from Bill Rimmer of Rimmer Bros who have a lot of parts for the older vehicles. Lovell Land Rover seem to have a reasonable reputation theyre only 20 minutes away from me.
