Hi all , im looking for a favour please, could some one with a 4.4 tdv8 and an IID TOOL check the live values for the alternator output please? I know this model has a ' smart ' alternator fitted and it would be good to know what reading you are getting ampere wise. Thank you in advance.

Ps

It's live values, untested values, alternator output. 2015 4.4 AB

I am not very confident with the iid, but sorry, I can’t see any “untested “ heading.
Also Wi-fi not too good in garage so difficult to send screen shots without going back in house.

I am hoping that other owners also respond both for your benefit and mine.
Is my iid out of date ?, if so, how do I update it??

You need to ask GAP to allow you access. It is not "standard" with the iiD but they will let you access if requested. It also opens up other parameters in the CCF. John

Hi all, left live values for battery level in volts , alternator in amps, alternator use in % and battery level ( charge wise ) in %.

I drove 30 miles , in heavy traffic and motorway speeds.

On start up I got

Battery level 12.7V as i accelerated over 1300 revs this increased to 13.7, with a peak thoughout the journey of 13.8V, however when i came off the throttle and the revs dropped below 1200 the reading was 14.4V. All these reading were consistent throughout the journey.

The amps started at 75 and increased to just over 120 amps and varied from 20 to 140 with the largest increase being during the deceleration phases of the journey.

Alternator % ranged from 10 to 50ish.

Battery charge level started at 86% , dropped to 85% and then returned to 86% by the end of the journey.

As I'm not the sharpest tool in the box ,, I'm confused, the RR is now on 12.6V at rest. The alternator is charging the battery but is it charging it enough ?? Any thoughts or sage advice gratefully received. 2015 4.4 AB

,

tks Mike, dolph34, I have same problem- change battery two weeks ago with same Varta G14 AGM and everything was fine. than i remember that one is supposed report battery change to the cars CPU and I did that using IIDTool. now i have same problem. charging voltage - idling 12.2~12V and 13.5 at 1500 2000 rpm's. I did hard reset(battery disconnect and tuch + and - after that charge is back to normal 14.2 to 14.7V for a whale and then back to 12.2 ~12V. however battery stays charged at 12.6v so I am waiting to see if it is going to normalise. this is most likely software glitch introduced with new battery reset. maybe you can communicate this to GAP tim and see if tay have any ideas?

Nino,

The Range Rover's Intelligent Power Management System ensures the alternator is charging the battery (and drawing energy from the engine) at the most efficient times, such as when the vehicle is coasting rather than accelerating. The electrical system is scaled such that the battery only needs to be charged to 80 percent, reducing the workload on the alternator. It also moderates the charge rates in cold weather when the battery is less able to cope with high charge rates, increasing battery life for lower cost and environmental impact.

Found this on an old thread and it seems to correspond with my readings 2015 4.4 AB

,

dolph34, we have exactly the same issue after battery change and IIDTool -New battery reset. my charge voltage dos't go over 13.5V and it was 14.5~14.7V before reset. this is not normal and I am afraid it is going to ruin our batteries, AGM batteries need, I believe, 14.5V charge. It is highly unlikely that both of our alternators went bad after battery change and subsequent software reset. voltage should not drop to 12V with car idling, and that is what we have, at idle IIDTool is showing 12.2V (green) and going to 12V (red).
Can you try battery disconnect, touch cabelas routine. when I do that I get 14.2 - 14.5V for a short whale. All this is leading Me to believe it is a software glitch and hopefully it can be remedied by GAP gays. Bow down

Nino,

.
