2008 RR Vogue with 11.500 miles buy or no buy?

Hi,

I´ve never owned a RR but am currently a happy owner of a 2011 Disco SDV6 with 95.000 miles on it. Bought from a friend who had it since new so I knew the car was a very well taken care of. For a car of that age and milage it feels almost new and so far I´ve had zero problems.

I have now found a 2008 RR Vogue TDV8 for sale in Sweden with 115.000 miles on it. Sold by dealer who bought it from its first owner.

I´m slightly terrified to buy a a car of this milage, specially given that i dont know the owner. But the price seems fair and its exactly the colour combo/options etc that I want. Im planning to use it a second car in the familly and drive between 7-12.000 miles per year.

Would be extremly happy to get thoughts on what kind of running costs Im looking at for a car this age and how long I can expect to drive it before repairs start costing more than the car is actually worth.

Any replies or tips are much appreciated!

Mileage is not too important in my humble opinion when you reach that age of vehicle, condition and service history are much more relevant. My 2007 VSE had big mileage and did need regularly maintenance but it was in very good condition with lots of service history and was very well looked after.

A lower mileage example may have not had the care that one like mine had hence the need for history. Again , just my opinion. 2015 4.4 AB

bought my 2011 4.4TDV8 with 107500 miles 18 months ago.

Best.
Car.
Ever.

+1 for condition and service history,
these things will go for a long time if well maintained.

Have you seen this: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic47597-60.html Cheers, Greg

New Zealand 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Java Black

I just bought a 2006 MY 4.2 Supercharged with 92,500 kms (57,000 miles) and that concerned my wife.

I spoke at length with the dealer selling it and he checked the SH, which was on time every time and indeed the car had only travelled 3,000 kms between June17 and June18. I explained to SWMBO that, whilst a newer one would be nicer (Terrain Response for a start) it would cost a lot more than the GBP18,000 equivalent I paid for this one and it would go on and on if looked after.

If the car is straight and has been well looked after, I think it's fine. Sometimes of course you find cars the other way round - I just sold a 2005 Discovery 3 with only 38,000 genuine miles on the clock!

Thanks for all your replies - much appreciated!

My experience with the Disco also tells me that land rovers do just fine if they are taken care of. However, Im guessing there are some thing that will go/need to be replaced no matter how well maintained the cars are? If for no other reason than age and wear. For example we just did the timing belt on the Disco 4 which has to be done on the 7th service so it wasnt a surprise.

Does anyone have a short list or know a good thread that deals with common issues over, say, 100.000 miles? Even assuming a perfectly taken care of car?

Also, not being technically gifted at all, are there any obvious things I should look out for with the car, again assuming perfect service history?

Cheers!

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Have a look in the wiki at the top of the page as there is a very good buyers guide in there, and there are many threads on fixes which could be needed.

As said its condition and service history which is important. Check it has been serviced every year not just at the milage intervals. You should find 12 stamps. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The price?

Not a good advert for the vehicle or the dealer.

Car was traded in by Land Rover dealer in April, 2015 (from first owner)
Then sold to current dealer (not official LR) in July, 2015.

Offered for sale by current dealer in July 2015 for approx 27.000 euro (exchange rate conversion)
Price lowered in April 2016 to 24.700 euro
Price lowered in November 2017 to 21.000 euro

Now offered for 19.000 euro

These vehicles like/need to be used. Could be a serious money pit as things which haven't been used for 3 years starting getting used and then break - eg hoses and pipes splitting, suspension bushes become brittle and perish, seized or sticky brake calipers, the list is quite long. I personally would walk away unless you are looking for a project. Current Fleet:-
2018 Discovery 5 3.0 HSE
2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrack
2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt 5.0 V8
1993 Defender 90 200TDI Pickup

Gone - not forgotten
2016 L405 4.4 SDV8 Vogue SE
2012 L322 4.4 Westminster
2004 L322 4.4 V8 Autobiography LE
2000 P38 RR 4.0 HSE (ex Clarkson test car)

Depending on the kind of dealer and stock they hold, it might be "for sale" but really used as a staff or wife or dealer principle's car.

Just seems unlikely any dealer would have a car for 3 years sat there.

. Cheers, Greg
