VIN decoded - some questions about what was revealed

I put my RR VIN through one of the online decoders, which came up with a long list of the options etc fitted on the car.

Some of them were not entirely clear to me and I wondered if anyone here could shed any light (the vehicle is a 4.2SC 2006 model registered in 2007 in Japan, then imported into NZ pre-owned later)

1) Door Locking Mode - Remote central locking [076DI]; Market Constraint - Order Restriction JAP [201AJ];

2) Locking Radio Frequency - Infra Red Remote Control [076DW];

3) Hot / Cold Climate - Hot Country Version [072AJ

4) Trim Rear - Trim Rear - High Line [154AB]

Can anyone shed any light on these?

The same parameters for a UK registered 2007 Vogue SE I have access to are:

Door Locking Mode - Remote central locking [076DI];
Locking Radio Frequency - 433.92 MHZ frequency (normal) [076DF];
Market Constraint - Order Restriction GBR [201AA];
Trim Rear - Trim Rear - High Line [154AB];

So I would suggest that your Japanese market car’s remote locking/unlocking mechanism is the same but requires line-of-sight to operate (maybe the 433.92 MHz radio frequency is/was restricted in Japan). Presumably the “Market Constraint” item simply refers to the intended market (JAP vs GBR) and the “Trim Rear” to one of two or more levels of rear cabin upholstery. It is reasonable to assume the entry level model is less well appointed in this regard.

The “Hot/Cold Climate” parameter did not come up for the TDV8 car I checked, so perhaps cars intended to operate in warmer climates had boosted cooling systems. I’m just guessing but I’m sure someone better informed will respond soon.

Thanks - that makes sense.

I think it is a BMW based locking system as it has the 'Clown Nose' on the bottom of the rear view mirror which I recall seeing in BMW's of a certain age.

On EU BMWs that's just a sentinel that flashes to signify the alarm is set. If yours doesn't flash, I suppose it could be an IR receiver. The test is, can you unlock your car without it 'seeing' your remote.

Can I ask which online decoder you used, as I have tried the recommended Topix system and it could not decode anything other than basic information? David

I believe it was vindecoderz.com or something very similar. It was a little jumbled and some of what came back was in what looks like Russian.

Google Translate does a pretty good job of handling all the Russian text, but put it in in chunks as there is a text number limit. .

Way ahead of you Joe and yes it was surprisingly good. None of it told me anything much, though and most was just repeating the English.
