Well, after almost 2 months of my car off the road and sat at the dealership, finally LR have agreed to replace the engine!

My symptoms (as said in other threads) was loud knocking from bottom end, near side bank when stone cold. A number of investigations showed oil starvation, whether it was pump failure or blocked oil ways - who knows and the car has only done 29k.

thankfully - mine had extended warranty but it still got quite stressful despite a perfect service history and being sold as an approved used car from a LR dealership.

What age is the car?

May I assume that it was Land Rover’s own extended warranty?

@ Boxbrownie: Surprisingly relaxed actually!

Engines from any manufacturer can fail out of the blue and this is the first major problem that I’ve heard I’ve heard of on any SDV8, so it’s not a bad average at all.

Glad it’s all being sorted; that’s going to be a biblically expensive claim under the warranty Little wonder that they had to think about it a bit!

RM - agreed that the SDV8 does not have a reputation for failure, but the dealership that I use had to replace a destroyed engine too, maybe about 2yo, was said to be a "farm car" with lots of heavy towing of horse boxes, cattle floats etc.which might have contributed. Was a warranty job, but the owner traded it for a new one rather than get the old car back with a new engine. I don't have any more details. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I think we should stop this thread immediately before the warranty company decide this is a know issue and not cover it.
